Music City Bowl - Wake Forest Demon Deacons vs. Mississippi State Bulldogs

A pair of 6-6 teams meet up in the Music City Bowl in the third game of a four-pack of NCAA football betting bowl battles when the Wake Forest Demon Deacons take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Wake Forest had a bunch of results this year that make you wonder just how good this team really is. A win over the Florida State Seminoles was great, and near misses against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and the Clemson Tigers were encouraging as well. When push came to shove, the Deacs played a slew of bowl teams this year, and the four teams that it played that aren't going to be bowling this year, they got the job done and posted impressive victories.

The problem that Head Coach Jim Grobe has with this team is that it just isn't that strong on either side of the ball. Wake Forest ranks No. 76 in total offense and No. 75 in total defense in the country. There wasn't a game against an FBS team this year in which the team scored more than 35 points, and there were six games this year in which the squad allowed at least 30 points, including two in the 40s.

That's why the Bulldogs are getting the nod by a touchdown on the Music City Bowl odds at 5Dimes Sportsbook. Mississippi State is going to get a huge boost in this game just because of the general SEC bias. Of course, the fact that the Demon Deacons were just beaten by the Vanderbilt Commodores, another 6-6 team from the SEC by five touchdowns is good reason for that.

The sad news for Mississippi State seemingly each and every year is that this team has several pretty much guaranteed losses because it plays on the SEC West. The LSU Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs, South Carolina Gamecocks, Alabama Crimson Tide, and Arkansas Razorbacks all won 10+ games this year, and one of those wins came against the Bulldogs. There was also a loss to the Auburn Tigers in there as well, a team which won eight games. Against the rest of the schedule, MSU went 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS, and the one game that wasn't covered was an overtime win over the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs, who also won eight games and won the WAC this year.

This is the first game for the Bulldogs without QB Dylan Favre as a quarterback option, as he is transferring to community college. This leaves just QBs Chris Relf and Tyler Russell to take all of the snaps in the Music City Bowl.
