Sugar Bowl - Michigan Wolverines vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

Of all of the bowl games played at the Louisiana Superdome this bowl season, this is probably the one that is the least intriguing. There are still a number of fans and teams that hate that the Sugar Bowl odds are going to be contested between the Virginia Tech Hokies and the Michigan Wolverines, as many thought that there were significantly more deserving teams that could have had the nod in the final BCS bowl game than these.

However, the hype around both clubs is out of this world. Michigan is as high as a kite at the moment, as the team is on the verge of something truly special with Head Coach Brady Hoke. The team came out of the blocks like a house of fire once again, but this season, with Rich Rodriguez out the door, there were no late season collapses that resulted in less than standard bowl games.

Of course, in the backs of the minds of the Wolverines faithful has to be the brutal beat down at the hands of the Mississippi State Bulldogs last year, something that QB Denard Robinson isn't going to want to repeat.

Virginia Tech was only beaten twice this season, but both games happened to be in conference against the Clemson Tigers. Though this is a team that has an 11-2 record on the campaign, there really aren't any tremendously quality wins. The out of conference schedule was paper thin, and the ACC wasn't exactly chock full of great teams, especially when you consider that the Florida State Seminoles were dodged in the ACC Atlantic Division this year.

Robinson and the Michigan fans have to love the fact that the Hokies struggled so badly trying to stop QB Tajh Boyd, who has a game that looks a lot like that of the big man in Ann Arbor. Boyd throws it more, while Robinson runs it more, but both get out of the pocket a lot and do their best damage when they are on the move outside of the tackle box.

This is why, in spite of the fact that the Hokies have a rich tradition and a tremendous rushing game behind RB David Wilson, Michigan is getting the nod by 2.5 points on the Sugar Bowl odds. You can find these college football bowl lines and a 'total' of 51 right now at 5Dimes Sportsbook
