The Heisman Trophy winner will be on display on December 29th at the Alamo Bowl, as QB Robert Griffin III leads the Baylor Bears into NCAA football betting action against the Washington Huskies.
These two programs have come a tremendously long way in the last few years. The Bears were getting blown away by virtually every opponent in the Big XII. The Huskies were bottom feeders in the old Pac-10 as well under Head Coach Steve Sarkisian turned things around. This is the second straight year in which both of these teams are going to be in a bowl game, and both were winners a season ago.
Of course, all eyes are going to be on Griffin. The Heisman winner threw for 3,998 yards and rushed for 655 more. He had 36 TDs against six picks and averaged a whopping 10.8 yards per pass attempt and completed 72.4 percent of his passes. Needless to say, Washington's defense is going to be up against it in this one, just as it was against the likes of QB Darron Thomas, QB Andrew Luck, and QB Matt Barkley in the Pac-12.
Washington's passing game isn't exactly slacking either. The Huskies have a great quarterback with QB Keith Price taking snaps, and he has a fantastic back in RB Chris Polk. Polk was a fringe Heisman Trophy candidate for awhile this year, and he rushed for 1,341 yards and 11 TDs on the season.
These two defenses have both had some bad games this year. Washington allowed 33.3 points per game, which was more than what it scored (31.5 PPG). A 38-21 win over the Washington State Cougars on the final weekend of the season stopped a string of five straight games with at least 31 points allowed.
Baylor allowed 59 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys, 55 to the Texas A&M Aggies, and 42 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. The good news though, is that the offense was able to beat Tech with 66 points in a game in which Griffin only played in the first half.
The Bears are nine point favorites on the Alamo Bowl betting lines at Bookmaker Sportsbook. The 'total' is the highest of the bowl season at a whopping 78.5.
