Preseason CFL Odds Provide Valuable Insight & Betting Opportunities

Football doesn’t only start in September. The Canadian Football League is about ready to kick-off, starting with its preseason games on Sunday, June 13.

What makes the CFL’s preseason important in the betting world? With the NFL constantly stealing talent there’s no telling how the top squads from 2009 come out the gate in 2010. There are only two warm-up games, but bettors can answer plenty of questions still floating on a couple of up-and-coming CFL squads before Week 1:

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats became a contender when CFL vet QB Kevin Glenn took over for struggling sophomore Quinton Porter. Although Glenn has declared himself the team’s starter, that decision has yet to be made official by the team’s management. But with two QB’s vying for the job – common sense tells us that the No. 1 position will likely go to whoever can get the Cats’ 2010 season off to a good start.

Judging by 2009‘s 10-7-1 season the Saskatchewan Roughriders look poised to explode behind rising QB Darian Durant and a deep receiving core. However in the offseason they were hit the hardest by players bolting for the NFL and offensive coordinator Paul LaPolice left for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ head coaching job.

The B.C. Lions have depth with QBs Casey Printers, Jarious Jackson, and Travis Lulay. But can the Lions be a solid bet if they’re playing musical chairs again under center? A decisive starter needs to come out of preseason to gage them as a wager.

With star QB Ricky Ray and the 2010 Grey Cup in their backyard the Edmonton Eskimos are ready for a championship run. However, given that their defence was one of the CFL’s worst last year they will need to make some improvements to be considered a legitimate threat this year.

You won’t find another football league with more revolving door rosters. That makes preseason CFL betting more important than ever if you want to start the 2010 football season the right way.
