The Edmonton Eskimos are the surprise team of the Canadian Football League and now are the second-favorite (7/2 odds) to win the Grey Cup championship according to Bodog.eu.
Edmonton isthe only undefeated team (4-0 SU and ATS) after a 24-19 win at Calgary on Saturday as three-point ‘dogs. This ‘Battle of Alberta’ lived up to its name and Edmonton was able to hold on despite being outgained in total yards (479-324).
The Eskimos weren’t expected to make the playoffs this year coming off a 7-11 campaign. However, quarterback Ricky Ray leads the CFL in passing yards (1,231), despite being held to 229 last game. Fred Stamps is the league’s leading receiver (477 yards) after having 161 yards last game (two TDs).
The defense had a lot of question marks heading into the season, but has allowed just 15.3 PPG the last three games, helping the ‘under’ go 3-0.
Montreal is the two-time defending CFL champ and still the solid favorite this year at 7/4. The Alouettes did suffer their first loss on Sunday night, 27-24 to Saskatchewan as 11 ½ point home favorites.
The big news from that game was Anthony Calvillo (eye) leaving in the second quarter and not returning. The legendary quarterback is expected to play this week against Hamilton.
Fans can’t wait to see the Edmonton and Montreal matchup on August 11 in Quebec.
Calgary (4/1) is the third favorite despite a 2-2 record. They were the last team before Montreal to win a title in 2008, but need more consistent play from quarterback Henry Burris to have a chance. The future Hall-of-Famer was actually jeered last game by his own fans.
