NZTAB weekly review Aug. 5

The biggest ever bet on rugby, that really was the story of the sportsbetting week.

The All Blacks bounced back to winning form against the Wallabies and justified the huge support they received from one punter who backed them with a masive $170,000 at $1.50. This is the single largest individual bet on rugby and the staggering thing was that it wasn't on a $1.05 favourite, the normal course for a major bet. There were other large bets on the All Blacks but nothing to compare with the one previously mentioned. We took : $11,868 at $1.55, $11,000 at $1.50, and $10,000 at $1.55.

The other talking point of the week was the number of upsets in week one of the AIR New Zealand Cup. Northland over Waikato, Manawatu over Canterbury and Counties-Manukau over Auckland. These were staggering results and certainly not anticipated by the punters. We took a couple of healthy wagers on Canterbury, who lost in the last few minutes to Manawatu : there was $45,575 at $1.05 and $13,000 at $1.05. However one punter got it right when he/she placed $10,000 at $1.28 on Wellington beating Hawkes Bay.

As always baseball was heavily supported throughout the week and again it attracted some of the larger bets. There was $100,000 at $1.77 on Florida and the NY Mets producing 9 runs or less ( loser ), $50,000 at $1.47 on Boston beating the Yankees ( winner ), $50,000 at $1.50 on the Yankees downing Baltimore ( loser ), and $23,500 at $1.50 on Boston beating the LA Angels ( loser ).

The other two large bets worth mentioning are from the NRL and both were winners. They were : $52,500 at $1.20 on the Wests Tigers beating the Bulldogs and $25,000 at $1.20 on the St George Dragons beating the hapless Bulldogs.

New Zealand were always going to beat Australia in NZ, no doubt in my mind. Man, if i had a mill, i would have gotten on them to win hands down.

Good read.
