TAB weekly review Oct 7

A diverse number of different sports were targetted by a our bigger punters last week and with mixed success.

The weeks two largest bets, both $50,000, went astray. There was $50,000 at $1.85 on the American football match between Pittsburgh and Baltimore to produce 34 points or less and there was $50,000 at $1.15 on Auckland to beat Northland in the Air New Zealand Cup. There was also a $12,000 wager on Auckland at that same price.

We might as well stay with the losing bets and the surprising defeat of the champion galloper Weekend Hustler in Australia caused a deal of anguish. We had a bet of $30,000 on him at $1.70 and another of $20,000 at the same price. Also in the losing column : $20,000 at $1.80 on Highview Tommy, $10,050 at $1.80 on Snow Alert, $10,000 at $14.00 on Fritzy Boy and $10,000 at $2.10 on Siem Reap. And finally on losing bets, we took $20,320 at $1.18 on Zheng to beat Pavlyuchenkov in the WTA tennis tournament in Tokyo.

Now to the winners, starting with rugby : $40,000 at $1.18 on Canterbury to beat Southland, $25,000 at $1.50 on Hawkes Bay to beat Bay of Plenty and two successful bets on Waikato to Taranaki, $14,555 at $1.13 and $12,000 at $1.15. Tennis punters had a pretty good week and some of the better winners were : $16,397 at $1.33 on Gasquet to beat Schuettler, $15,860 at $1.16 on Wozniacki to beat Morita, and $13,000 at $1.22 on Ferrer to beat Levine.

In the world of football a couple of winning bets : $30,000 at $1.60 on Portsmouth to beat Stoke City and $13,000 at $1.01 in live betting on Manchester United to down Aab.

New Zealand's richest horse race, the Kelt Stakes, was run last Saturday and won for the second year in a row by Princess Coup. In a very high turnover race we took a wager of $20,000 on the great mare at $2.40.
