What The Pro's Dont Want You To Know (Part 2 & 3)

Ok guys sorry I have not been around the last few days, I have been putting in some good grinding at the tables. In Part 1 we covered Table BankRoll Management. That article showed you how important it is to watch & protect your stack while you sit at the table. It also showed you how to think twice before putting 50%-100% of your stack in the pot on one hand. I only did use one hand for a sample in the first article eeven though may apply like trying to chase a flush or a str8 draw. If you did read the first Article with an open mind I am sure you have already thought of many diffrent situations where you may want to wait for a better spot before you put your stack in the middle of the pot.

I am going to write part 2-3 together just for the fact that they go well with each other, enjoy.

Part 2: Are You Beating The Game?

Most poker books say you should play until you are tired or when you start running bad. Why leave the table when you run good. etc.. This is all true, but it still gives you nothing to really shot for when you are at the poker table. I was at a buddys house who is kinda of new to poker. He was playing way above his roll, 1/2 NL. He bought in for the full amount $200 and was playing for about an hour. When I walked in his house, I heard a big bang on his computer desk & him yelling at the computer. I asked hime what was wrong. He said he just lost a $30 pot and was at only $226 right now.

No Doubt this guy was on tilt & ready to give his whole roll up at the table, I was quick to tell him to sit out and relax for a few. All he can say was that he wanted $300 and he got sucked out on. As he checked his sit out button I proceeded to look at his stats. He played 103 hands (thats how I based his time limit at the table) So out of his 103 hands he had earned 13 Big Blinds which= $26. I then told him he was crushing the game so far, and that all he took was a swing in the game. Even though it was an early swing. He looked at me strange, as if the $30 he just lost was the end of the world.

I went on to tell him about BB's per 100 hands played. This is a real easy concept to understand. The Lower the Buy-in= more BB's per 100 hands. The higher the buy-in= less BB's per 100 hands.

If you are playing 0.05/0.10 The obtainable BB's per 100 hands played should be anywhere between 10-12 BB's per 100 hands, you may be even able to hit 15+ BB's Per 100 hands in the short run. So if you play 600 hands in one session at 0.05/0.10 You should make between $6.00-$7.20 after playing for just over 6 hours or 600 hands in your session. Anything in between the $6.00-$7.20 says to me you are beating the game of NLHE at that level.

In a 1/2 NL game you can win expect to win about 8 BB's Per 100 hands.

In a 5/10 NL game you may only win 2-3 BB's per 100 hands.

So if you win 12 BB's in your first 100 games played at 5 cent 10 cent can you expect to win that every 100 hands you play? That answer is no. Sometimes you will win 20 BB's & sometimes you will win 4 BB's or lose 15 BB's. The thing about poker is the same with sports wagering. It is all about the long term.

For your first 2,000 hands played you may avg. 16 BB's Per 100 hands played.

For your first 5,000 hands played you may avg. 12 BB's Per 100 hands played.

For your first 50,000 hands played you can Avg. 6 BB's per 100 hands played.

Part 3: In The Session

So what goes on during that 600 hand session at 0.05/0.10, anything and everything will happen. You may be up to $25 after 200 hands into it, then you may be down to $8 after 400 hands into your session. After all said and done if you are playing good poker you may be up to $16 after you hit your 600 hands for a session. What I have just talked about are called swings that can and will happen during your session. Swings like this can really mess with your mind and put you on serious tilt after playing 400 hands. [/B]If you can cope with this as being a normal part of your game and keep playing through it you will be fine at the end of your session.[/B] This is the main reason why poker players fail or lose alot more then they should. Not everyone has the mind set for swings like this mid session. The truth is most people cant take swings at all. (I know the Swings listed above may be a little out of wack, but for sure not impossible. The whole thing is just to give the people who dont know what swings are an idea.)

Alot of people cant see putting 4 hours worth of work in to see all of it or most of it get taken away. The only advice I can really give on this is to try and play through them as if it were a normal part of the game. If you are not use to putting in big sessions, try and do so at a lower limit then you would play & learn to play through it.

Some people play 600 hand sessions 400 hand sessions or 1500 hand sessions, if you multi table you may see 5000-10,000+ hand sessions depending how many tables you play at once.

If you can put the info you have learned in part 1, 2, & 3 all together with a solid poker game. I have no Doubt that it will make you a more successful player at the tables. GL
