Buy & Sell

Will update this as much as I can during the season.....hopefully atleast once a week.

Basically a buy is a player who is perceived to have lower value than I think he deserves and a sell is someone who has more value than I think he should have.

An example would be J A Happ if he gets off to a good start I would classify as a sell since I personally think he will regress and an example of a buy would be a player like a Carlos Gonzalez if he starts off slowly who I think is a much better player than his draft value would suggest.

This thread should take off once we get some stats under our belt and perceptions begin taking place.

Didnt forget about this thread.....just dont think values have changed all that much since the draft.

Some players certainly have started slowly and others hot but values in general havent nosedived or skyrocketed.

As far as Vernon Wells or Magglio are concerned I remain neutral on them. Sure I would want them on my team but I am not going out of my way to get them either.

Some players you might want to target right now might be young players who you might have wanted to draft and have started slow since patience on those guys might not be warranted as much as veterans.

Its very hard to stay even when the baseball season is 8 days old but thats exactly what it is.....only 8 days old. NFL player values doesnt change after the 1st quarter of game 1, does it?

Wells is a career .285 with 26 and 95 and throws in 10 sb and has NEVER struck out 100 times in a season. Hes legit. He had a down year last year after an injury plagued 08' (wrist injury we have seen with him and Ortiz is hard to come back from). Now batting behind Lind I think he returns to his career averages this year. I wouldn't be getting rid of this guy if you got him late in the draft or in my 10 team league I picked him up off free agency. Of course if someone is going to overpay for him (based on the career averages which is what I expect this year) than by all means pull the trigger. I'm buying him right now. And hes only 31 so its not like hes over the hill and age was the driving factor in down numbers.

whats the overall feeling on Romero, Price, and Edwin Jackson?

the first 2 young pitchers playing really well right now. I dont want to dump them but i'll consider them as trade bait but im afraid they will stay hot through the year. I just have a feeling that both will decline as June rolls around and perhaps their highest trade value is in the next couple of weeks. thoughts?

Jackson i am neutral, i think he will maintain an avg value through the season, not get really hot but also not terrible.

What about Verlander? Does he have a repeat of his 2008 season? dump him know before he loses more value or is it just a bad start?

Sell High SP

Carlos Silva
Livan Hernandez
Mike Pelfrey
Barry Zito

These 4 above had sick Aprils and nothing suggests they will be able to mantain what they have done thus far.

Buy Low SP

Doug Davis
Aaron Harang
Vicente Padilla
Josh Beckett
Gavin Floyd
Rick Porcello

These 6 basically got torched the month of April but based on peripherals and some form of track record should be poised for a turn around IMO with the first 3 on this list prolly floating around on waiver wires.

Do I still think Zito and Pelfrey are worthy of roster spots ? Absolutely. But IMO if you can find someone willing to take them I would definitely move them quickly.

Will add some hitters and hopefully RP sometime this week to the list.

I think all 4 of these arms hold some sort of value in terms of positive outlooks. I would rank them Verlander, Price, Romero and then Jackson with the first 3 being pitchers you definitely want to hold onto.

Jacksons value has probably nosedived and while I didnt think he would live up to his preseason value I dont think his value belongs where it currently sits and is someone who I would buy low and then consider flipping once he gets it going again.

Wells is a solid player but to live up to his contract he would have to put up Braun #s on offense while playing above average defense.....doubt he will attain either but when the bar gets lowered as much as it did for Wells its not high to surpass expectations.

Im not sure what the # is this year but I think this is it for Magglio on this deal unless he plays out of his mind....(not sure what the ABs needed this year but I think its more difficult than last year but Im not sure)
