Keeper League...

ok, so im in a big money, 16 Team Keeper league. very competitive and this year.....im out of the playoffs, so decisions for next year are on the table for me

for next year I have signed:

Alexi Ramirez
Matt Holiday
Yunel Escobar
Cole Hamels

( i did have Alex Rios but traded him to a higher placed team for a 2nd round pick next year)

my questions are around my franchise player and my sleeper keeper ( a guy that i drafted after the 13th round or got on the waiver wire....

Players that i have to consider for franchise

youkilis
ryan zimmerman

Players that i have to consider for sleeper keeper

nyjer morgan
jason bartlett
Juan Rivera
andrew bailey
Tommy Hunter

thoughts?

im leaning Youlikis and Juan Rivera, then ill be able to have

Alexi, Youkilis, Holliday, Rivera, Escobar for a core

and go after pitching in the first two rounds to surround Hamels with guys

Not sure of the rules..why can't you keep Zimmerman and Youklis? Im assuming Alexei has eligibility beyond SS? Or do you start MI? Why keep 2 SS is basically what I am saying. Do you have to keep a sleeper keeper? Not much upside going forward with Bartlett and Morgan. Keeping a closer isnt the greatest move in my opinion and Rivera is too injury prone for my taste. What kind of a league is this, what kind of scoring do you employ, and how long can you keep someone. Pitching is fishy from year to year so I really dont like keeping them unless they are established but long term on that list Hunter would have some appeal I guess. 16 player leagues are deep....how many can you keep each year.....I still think a player like Rios hasnt peaked...Im assuming a 2nd round pick is pretty valuable so Im assuming that you dont keep many players. If so try and keep Youk and Zimmerman.

pimp, thanks for the response...and all the questions

anyway, i can only have 1 franchise player. Zimmerman and Youk are the two best players on my team that are not signed through next year

scoring is pretty standard. most scoring categories...with a few things like errors, doubles, triples..etc...are all included

alexi next year will only have SS next year. We do have a Util and DH positions though.

yes, i need to do a sleeper keeper...so one of the guys from that list

franchise players can be kept as long as i want

sleeper keepers are just kept for the next year. at the end of the draft you have to sign two players to 3 year contracts...Hamels and Alexi are signed through 2011, and Holliday and Escobar are signed through next year

Franchise Zimmerman and keep Rivera (most established of that group)

Im assuming you cant keep any more than 7 players a season going forward (two 3 year deals at a time) and a sleeper keeper.

Besides Holliday, Zimmerman and Youklis I would probably want to throw everyone else back in the pool. Since it is a 16 man league the other keepers are fringe keepers. (Im still a big believer in Hamels but his value has bottomed out from a top 50 player to a top 100 estimated value player)

Just try and get your hands on some more young superstars like Justin Upton, Evan Longoria (young and established) and try and stay away from the guys like Wieters & Jay Bruce (elite ceiling but still rising)

These typed of leagues if run properly and have active and knowledgable owners can be very fun.....throw in the big money and thats the cake....good luck.

huh? 1.99 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, .171 BAA and 75Ks in 68 innings.

yeah he'll probably lose the closer job

bailey will have the job in the 9th. devine will only get it if bailey falters.

Youk has been so damn consistant and has multiple pos, I think I'd go with him. Nijer Morgan is the sleeper guy for me. Dude has produced all year, and he's a bonifide leadoff/steals guy that plays everyday.

thanks guys.....

this is a very competitive league. other 15 owners know their shit. I won it two years ago and made some very nice trades in order to win ( which kind of sacrificed my team since then-lesson learned)

Juan Rivera has impressed me this year and im leaning towards him as my sleeper keeper to have for 2010.

i will not know who is up to be drafted next year until after our fantasy year is done which is actually 3 more weeks...upton, longoria and guys like that are 100% under contract or franchise players for one of the other teams...

I have to hope Hamels rebounds next year and i can build a staff around him.

even though its not stellar, a core group of Alexi, Holliday, Escobar, Rivera, Zimmerman/Youk will let me focus on pitching in rounds 1-2

this league is run on CBS Sportsline.com
the commish tweaks it to our certain rules...

spliff

i had to. i had the least amount of contract players because i pulled a yankees and traded every contract to other teams to get high profile players.

it did win me the title two years ago, but like i said before...i have been paying for it the last two years

i think next year i am back if i can take advantage of what is on the free agent list
