A Keeper League Question of who to take with the 6th pick

ok, so here is the deal. Tomorrow night is my big 16 team, keeper league draft and Im looking for advice on how to handle my 6th pick

my team right now is

3B - R Zimmerman
SS - Y Escobar
OF - M Holliday
OF - Juan Rivers
UTIL - Alexi Ramirez

P - Cole Hamels


now, i was thinking about getting a pitcher at 6. pitchers out there are Wainwright, Carpenter, Johan Santana, Josh Johnson, M Cain but there are still a bunch of number 1-2 guys after those. i could still get a nice 2nd stater at pick 27.

my problem is do I take a First Baseman. I just went through all the teams and 12 teams need a stud first baseman.

the 1B available are: VMart, Youk, Votto, K Morales, B Butler, Berkman, Helton and then it falls off significantly from there.

so i am rethinking my pitcher first because i see some steals in the middle rounds and think i need to go get that stud at 1B because there wont be much left after rounds 2-3

i was also thinking of possibly trading my 6th pick for Adrian Gonzalez but need to check with that owner first....

thoughts?

if you can get morales or votto i'd go with one of them

I was thinking the same thing when I read this, maybe players are assigned a salary and you're only able to keep so much? Otherside it's hard to believe that these guys are still there. - If so, WCI has had a tough few years with his keepers compared to these guys that other teams are dumping.

those guys contracts came up this year, or when people drafted them they didnt assign contracts to them or assign the franchise tag to them

sorry, didnt explain our contracts. after each draft you assign 2 - 3 year contracts. you have one franchise player and one sleeper keeper ( a guy you pick up on waivers or draft after 13th round)

so alot of these guys are off contract, off franchise status, or were just drafted for one year.

zimmerman is my franchise. i have hamels and alexi ramirez through 2011, juan rivera is my sleeper keeper, and holliday and escobar contracts are up after this year

the person i take with the 6th pick im going to assign a 3 year contract to, so they have to be young, potential and durable

if you get to sign a guy to a 3 year contract id take one of the younger 1b votto or morales over the aging pitchers carpenter and santana

lol @ you two fantasy guru's

well, i guess ill see who is there at the 6th pick and gran one of these young 1B's and lock them up for 3 years. then at 27 ill grab Gallardo, Jimenez..etc.. or someone like that for my 2nd pitcher

in a league where you sign players to muti-year deals, you gotta go with a hitter. they're less risk than a SP.

i luckily traded B Webb before his injury issues because i had him locked up for 3 years.

i agree about pitchers being locked up for multiple years. you never know when an arm injurty can derail things

so, now need to decide between Youk, Morales, Votto.....because i think all of these guys will be there at 6
