Thumbs up 70 years ago today ....

Ted Williams went 6-8 to finish off the 1941 season batting .406

Any of you mallers think it will happen again?

I personally think its a record that wont be touched !

A little different than Jose Reyes getting a hit in his first AB today and then leave the game to protect his batting average lead.

Hope Braun goes 4-4 tonight

Wont be broken in this era. With the strike zone as it is now, Williams could have likely hit .420+. Biggest difference is the stuff pitchers have now vs then.

Best hitter in history IMHO.

cant say he's the best as i never saw him - i will say i think the pitchers stuff being so much better today is counter balanced by the pitching mound being 5 inches lower than it was when Williams hit .406

barry bonds the best ive seen

dont think anyone will ever hit .400 again

just didnt know if it was or not. i saw he got a single then had a pinch runner. figured he would at least want to run around the bases, unless he was hurt. i mean, lets be honest, reyes lovesssss stealing bases, etc.

so thats why i asked.

Take a look at the years he missed serving his country (ages 24-28 and 34, 35) and do a simple calculation of his average #'s for his career. Easily hits 700+ HRs and bats at least .345 for his career.

Bet most of you didnt know he averaged more walks per 162 games than Bonds (143 to 139) while striking out much less often (Bonds 15.6% to Williams 9.2% strikeout rate).
Career BA -- Williams .345 Bonds .298
Slugging -- Williams .634 Bonds .607
OPS -- Williams 1.116 Bonds 1.051

Just some stats as food for thought.

Only if Braun goes 4 for 4 then he makes the list for cheating a black man out of what was rightfully his.
