Adoption

Has anyone here ever adopted a child international?

My wife and I have been talking about it for months now and we met a family that adopted an international child. The wife of that couple has actually started an organization due to her activity in that country and it is amazing.

We are going to do it, but there are 1000 questions and concerns.

What is your view if you have done it?

I live in a suburb of Nashville, called Brentwood, TN. The population is about 36,000. As I have done research, I have found out that there are over 100 children have been adopted from Ethiopia in our community of Brentwood. That is the exact location that we have been lead to adopt.

My dad lives there, beautiful area.

And my wife and I looked into us and after doing more research we decided not to at this time. Adoption will be in our future though.

Hamilrock,

That is a very valid question that was presented to me by many family members and friends.

There are 147 million children in this world without a family. Many are not in this country and many do not have a foster home or even the most basic care that the children in our country have. That is not to say that the children in the US don't deserve it. All 147 million children deserve a home.

We were lead to Ethiopia through a friend of ours that started an organization that not only helps in International Adoption, but also works with the local Rescue Missions in Nashville. This organization opened my wive and I's eyes to the needs of children that have nothing but a trash dump to live in (and I do mean a trash dump, not some hut, but a trash dump).

We just feel led by God that this is what we are suppose to do.

If Dr. J will allow, I can put the organization name and web site on here so you can see what I mean.

Just an update, if anyone cares.

Our family is "paperwork" ready. We are number 21 for our Agency on the waiting list. Hopefully we will have a child home by August.

We have a blog site with the journey that our family is going through. If you are interested in our journey, I will respond with my blog spot.
