After hour trading question

Question for anyone that can answer.

When a stock closes and then goes up or down after hours, what price does it open at the next day?

it depends, because there is also prestock trading. For example, if microsoft closes at 45 and then they have earnings coming out 20 minutes after the market closes, the stock may go up or down in after hours depending on the news or earnings and could end up at 47. The next day, there can be early market trading before the actual market opens up and the stock could open up at 48, 49, because of the positive news from after hours earlier but if the Naz or dow futures start off negative or if any other news comes out premarket, the stock can still open up at a different price. You just never know. What you can do is just follow a big stock that has high volume and watch it in after hours trading and then follow it about 30 minutes before the stock market opens in the morning and then you will see how it moves right before the market opens.
