cold air is heavier (more dense) which is why warm air can float like a hot air balloon.....

You are absolutely right......cold air is denser, hence heavier.

Explanation for Revvy:
When a gas is cooled, there is less motion/movement among its atoms (less kinetic energy), therefore, the atoms become closer in proximity to each other, hence becoming denser.
