This happens every night in the NBA. I think the lower echelon conferences in college, this would happen more. Hard to do this in the power conferences.

Franzese is a blowhard who's agenda is not about Jesus as he would have use all believe but rather about selling books which he has done a very good job of. An ex-mobster for some reason gets automatic credibility but one has to wonder how this guy is still alive if even half of his story is true.

The Sports Illustrated article referenced concerning the observations from an economist from the Wharton Business School has been shot full of holes by many gambling experts and even if you buy into his "mathematical formula", 500 games over the past 16 seasons involving point shaving are a miniscule fraction compared to the number of games played over that time span.

This information when put into perspective is easily identified as anti-gambling propaganda and I am ashamed at those that take this at face value without bothering to run the numbers. It is simple arithematic guys; take the number of Division I teams mutiplied by the average number of games played by each school multiplied by 16 freaking seasons. Anyone who understands betting odds can easily do the math and even if you fall for the hype, 500 games ain't shit.

Please tell me that the following excerpt from the posted article does not reek of journalistic sensationalism:

In 2003, a Wisconsin freshman from Taiwan was charged with the triple murder of three roommates. The murders were believed to stem from a dispute over gambling debts. The student then hanged himself in his prison cell in January 2005. If only the problem were just game fixing.

Honestly, I have heard better arguments in The Basement at Cappers Mall.

How about this jewel for shock Value:

Franzese is believed to be the only person to leave a crime family, not enter a witness protection program -- and live.

Whatever.

While the following statement may be true as it relates to the general public, how many of you identify with this stereotype:

Bettors lose most of the time and gambling can become an addiction.

No shit? I thought everyone had a chance at retiring by betting sports. I guess it goes to show just how much I know!

This is the statistic in the article that, in my opinion says it all:

According to a 2003 NCAA survey, 1.3 percent of Division I players admitted taking money from a gambler to play poorly.

Freaking 1.3 %? That's it?????

And this arbritray number was derived from some survey that of course we the betting community, will never have access to. If this is all that sophiticated research can offer, I'll take my chances.

In closing, I have to question the inteligence of anyone who truly believes that games are fixed on a regular basis yet continues to wager on these same games unless that person is somehow privy to the fix pipeline.

It just does not make sense to me.

One issue we will always 100% agree on Judge. My argument is always "prove it." People who lose a game ATS on some "freak" occurence and think that player (especially pro's) care about the dam ATS number are insane and have been jaded by too much gambling. Does a college game get fixed occasionally? Sure. Does it happen less then 1% of the time? Yes.

People forget: Well orchastrated drug conpiracies get uncovered. High-level terrorist plots get uncovered. Sophiticated oranized criminal organizations get uncovered. To think that the NBA could have games fixed on a nightly basis without one iota of evidence leaking out to authorities and or the press is perhaps the most laughable thing immaginable. My guess is most college fixes get exposed as well.
