America's Most Fan Friendly Athlete

Just received my latest copy of ESPN The Magazine

Cover story is America's most fan friendly athlete, Winner is

Joe Mauer, as if there was any doubt.

Interesting article, the guy who wrote it sent 479 handwritten letters to people associated with every major team in the 4 sports and see who wrote back

Mauer actually not knowing who he was sent the guy a postcard with a fairly long hand written note back to the guy.

He said the biggest loser in this was the Cincinnati Bengals who suggested that he pay for an autograph of head coach Marvin Lewis

That was a great article Gerk, just read it this morning. It is really amazing that he takes the time to respond like that. That personalized message that guy got back from him was nuts. Too bad the article is going to keep him even busier now, lol

Do you think Mauer would be as lovable in New York or a bigger market where he had to face cameras every minute of his life?
