Angel Pitcher Killed

Anger rookie starter Nick Adenhart was killed, along with two others early this morning, by a hit and run drier, who ran a red light and crashed into their vehicle. The driver was apprehended and arrested a short time later. Adnehart made his first major league start last night, giving up no runs in 6 innings.

Just another senseless tragedy in the Anaheim area, though this occurred in neighboring Fullerton. Another senseless act in what is becoming more and more of the norm instead of the rare event. Anaheim and Fullerton are both in Orange County, an area known for it's low crime rate. I guess it is a sign of the times.

Been seeing this on the news all morning.

Most MLB games will have a moment of silence tonight. LAA going to have a presser in a little while. Will be surprised if they play tonight.

Kid was only 22, and his parents were in town for his season debut last night.

I know he played in 3 games last year. Not sure if he started, though.

LAA officially cancelled the game tonight.

Our local stations missing the boat on this one. I'm sure they'll hit it tonight, but ignoring on the midday shows. SLC is the AAA club for the Angels. The kid plays here.

excerpts from local website here in SLC:

Los Angeles Angels rookie pitcher, who spent last year as a Salt Lake Bee, has died in a hit-and-run car crash. Nick Adenhart was killed Thursday when a minivan ran a red light and struck a sports car his was in, authorities said. Two others died in the crash.

The pitcher made his major league debut May 1 of last year, also against Oakland. He made two other starts, getting his only decision in a victory over the Chicago White Sox on May 12. He was 37-28 in the minor leagues from 2005-08, including 9-13 last year at Triple-A Salt Lake.

The suspect is 22 year old Andrew Gallo, who was arrested after fleeing the sceene. He was leaglly under the influence, and driving with a license that was suspended after his last run in with the law for drunk driving. While the S.O.B. deserves the death penalty, the worst he can get is three consecutive 26 to Life sentences. A**holes like him who drive on suspended licenses, can not control their drinking, kill people, and then try to flee should be shot dead on sight.

It is a shame that the Writ of Outlawry has been banned in most civilized parts of the world. We sure could use it now and then.

Thats the number to the DA handling the case. Call the number and demand that they press murder charges on the guy who was the cause of the accident.

Nick was a great guy his whole life and has made an impact on everyone's life that he has ever known.

It hurt to wake up yesterday morning to see someone that you played baseball, are a friend with, pass away the way he was taken. Everything that has happened is completely senseless.

Thanks.

I totally agree. This scum bag can get life if we all press the case. I know that many people have already called.

As someone who has been hit by a drunk driver, hit & run (but was very lucky), I really feel for this family.

If the guy was drunk, I am sure he will be charged with vehicular manslaughter or similar

I've lost a few friends in DD accidents and it saddens me to see this. It could happen to anyone and that is a damn shame.
