Any mechanics on here?

96 pathfinder. On the drive home from work. I found myself having to pump the brakes multiple times until I could stop. 1st two times it would go straight to the floor. 4th would be like normal. What could be wrong?

TIA

you have blown cylinder on one wheel or your master cylinder went !

easy to see if any wheel went check inside of wheels for brake fluid

if none are wet then you need a new mster cylinder which can be done yourself if you got time takes about 4 hrs !

I had a prob like this on my 97 Toyota hunting truck. It was my master cylinder was bad. I would start by bleeding them some as then check your brake fluid first. Does your pedal drop pretty far before you pump it? Mine did

Open the master. If it is full it is the master. If it is empty check the wheels. Could be a wheel cyl or the brakes just shot. And a master should take about 20 min not 4 hours. If I charged 4 hours I would get shot.

Sounds like what mine did. Sounds to me and a friend I asked that it is a master cylinder problem. My pedal would start firm and then all the sudden go to the floor but the brakes were still engaged just not engaged enough to stop. Best of luck with it. Hope it works out for ya.

AS we all said had to one or the other ! Mecahnic will have it all done for $250

and btw pwerr 20 mins is lil bit way over fast !

YOU have to bleed the whole system and bench bleed the new master cylinder before installing it !

how inhell can you bleed all 4 wheels plus install a master cylinder in 20 minutes is beyond me ! I said 4 hours by your self on the street !

Mechanic with helper 2 hors !

I have been a mechanic for 30 years. With my own business for 25. 2 hours and I can replace the whole brake system in that particular vehicle so thanks for your 2 cents. Diagnosing a problem especially brakes over the internet is almost impossible. I was just giving a direction. If you don't know what the fuk you are doing take it to a mechanic.

Hey pwherr. Tech tells me it's rusted brakelines. Hard to give an estimate because of the way the cuplings are, being close to fuel lines. He is thinking of running 2 separate lines apart from the existing brake lines and route them differently to avoid contact of the fuel lines. What do you think? Part of me wants to scrap it
