Other than the show, I honestly didn't believe alot of these took place and know of no-one has been associated with one in "real life". The sopranos seinfeld and the tv show itself made these public knowledge, but I have no clue how mainstream in real life they are.

So if you say no to the invite on one, are you an outcast immediately. I'm sure some people wouldn't feel comfortable doing one. Is there a trained professional steering it or is it a former addict doing it.

Yes, and it was certainly no fun, but it managed to save the life of one of my kids, who was nearing the "gallon a day drinker" status. He has been sober for 15 years now.
