both me and my wife has been donors since the 80s. if you are looking to make a positive contribution to your community donating blood will make a bigger impact than you may realize. plus they give ya juice and donuts man cant beat that...

Does it work the same in the US as here?

Here on my first appointment I filled in form make sure health is good and aged 16-60 and weigh over 120 pounds. Then each time after every 3 months I would donate. We don't get donuts though lol. Offered biskets and drinks usually.

over here in germany, you get (i think) 10-15€ each time you donate, plus a free meal+drinks, depending on teh time you donate, breakfast, lunch or dinner... for 5, 10, 15 years of (regular) donating you get extra cash and some kind of medal or pin... and (i suppose) you get extra reputation and stuff and support in casse that you need help some day... for the most seldom blood groups, they got extra offers aswell... i know alot of people that donate every 3-4 weeks (i guess that was teh periode that you have to wait between 2 donations)... but as you can read from my 'guesses' and 'supposing' i don't donate... i am hell of affraid of needles, after sth went bad in my childhood at the doctor... still hurts me just thinking off... and i cant see my own blood...

...still, all the people i know dont donate coz they want to do good, they do it for the cash... especially the teenagers, to have some extra money to spend on parties...

Yeah they should offer money and maybe a meal here. As only around 3K adults each year donate (NZ has only 4 million people) and they are struggling for numbers.

There are alot of misconceptions from some people and I think that scares people away. They ALWAYS use a never been used before sterile needle.
They only take around 7% of your bodies blood which is very little and you will have no adverse effects. Also the pain is nothing and you don't have to watch!

I usually end up doing it through work a few times/year. The last time the girl was new and didn't have good aim when she put the needle in lol. I had a bruise for about 10 days.

i suppose, if they wouldnt give money over here... we had just like 3k donators aswell... but of 81 mio inhabitants

and i just read about the donating procedure...

the leading organisation isnt allowed to 'buy' blood anymore... so alot of private 'services' jumped on that 'business train'... and they sell the blood (covering their costs) paying 15-25€ depending on the 'type' of donation...

lol, sounds like idiocy to me... 'blood shouldnt be a trading good'

so the governmental service wasnt allowed to pay the citizen to donate... as it wouldnt be a donation anymore...

but then, noone donates anymore... so private services 'buy' blood and sell it to teh hospitals... and the hospitals get teh money from government... so what changed?

yes... private services 'could' earn money... stupid people we are... but well, now the people get more money per donation, but can donate just half that often.

I'm 22 and i have been in hospital 12 times in my life. This hasn't much to do with giving blood, but i've had my fair shair of needle injections.
