Anyone have expertise on fridges?

My fridge is freezing food/drink.

Got the electronic sensor replaced with a new one, didn't work.

Which from my understanding leaves two possibilities 1) replace the control panel or 2) it could be a gas problem which I doubt b/c the usual signs aren't there.

Surely they can perform a test to determine which exactly is the problem?

Put a different thermostat in there and check your temp it should be around 38-42

If temp is good then you probably either have a leak in refrigerant or the thermostat in the fridge needs to be replaced

Thanks. The electronic sensor I refered to is what was called the thermostat (in older fridges).
Replacing that didn't work. Temp is no good much colder than 38-42.

There is a vent on the fridge where the cold air comes in. If its blocked by anything the fridge will be working harder than it should pushing more cold air through. Clear any items around the vents.
If that doesn't work clean the vents themselves. Defrosting is worth a try. If none of that works give me your make and model number and I might be able to help you that way because many problems with appliances are model related.

Hi CC,

All the vents are clean and unblocked. Its a fisher and Paykel model # = EI69T, about 6 years old.

I have ran into this problem before when replacing the sensor. Mine was a side by side model, and the sensor was installed thru the fridge side, into the freezer side. I did not have it completely inserted, so it continually tried to cool the fridge side to the freezer setting. Might want to try that.

Dont know if you've fixed that fridge yet but I typed the Fisher and Paykel model into a database and these brands have contoller problems. But your # was not listed in this D-base so take it for what its worth.
As you hinted at in your original post ice build up may be due to a gas blockage or not enough gas.
Also look for excessive ice build up on the evaporator coil.
