Autographed Memorabilia?

Do you guys know of a good site that has a large selection of autographed sports memorabilia?
I'm putting together a game room here and wanted to throw some stuff from some C-level or maybe criminally troubled athletes on the walls.

Thanks.

How do you know you're not getting ripped off buying autographed memorabilia? What do you look for too make sure what you're buying is authentic?

Thinking of doing something similar, reason I ask.

Dont buy anything that doesnt come with certificate of authentication. Im not someone who goes and buys expensive memoribillia anyways so not really a concern of mine, do like to know im buying real sht tho so always make sure it comes with the certificate if it doesnt i wouldnt bother. Also most of the stuff i buy is what i see them signing in person, always look for the traveling dates for players and appearences that way you can bring what you like and have them sign. I heard pacman is going to be signing at Bridgeton County Pen next week, Bonds at Leavenworth, and Vick at Attica so Id really check into dates.

ebay... make sure they have c's of authenticity.... upper deck authenticity's are very reliable.

im lookin to buy some jerseys in the next few years. i would have never considered it in the past but my college roomate of a couple years ago had dough and bought about 8 jerseys framed and they are very cool to hang on walls. Im just waiting to live in a place more secure cause a 1,000 dollar framed jersey aint hard to walk out of the house with.

Any particular autographs or types of memorabilia you are looking for. I know a number of folks in and around Pittsburgh who deal in that stuff. Plus, they are folks you can trust.

Cant guarantee they will have what you are looking for, but never hurts to try.

Careful man. Ebay can be good, but ALOT of what you see there is not legit. Either it: comes with no COA (certificate of authenticity), a COA from some company you have never heard of; or a forged COA (if they have forged the sig, they will surely forge the COA). There are authentication companies out there that charge a ton of dough (PSA/DNA is one of them) to authenticate an item, and many times they are wrong. Or they do a shitty job of authenticating.

I am a collector, and have been doing so for awhile. There are a few companies that, just by the name, you know the products are legit: Steiner, Upper Deck, Tri-Star, and a few others. If at all possible, you want stuff certified by them, as it is usually obtained through a private signing the comapny ran, is hologrammed, and entered into a computer data-base that you can check.

Remember. If the price is too good to be true, it is a phony.

Good luck.

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

That's the problem is we don't have any specific ideas. We just wanted to get some less mainstream stuff like an autographed Mark Malone jersey or something from someone with legal issues. It's going to end up being more like something entertaining than something that everyone would want. We even started looking at some movie posters.
But if you know some people in this area we'd be happy to check them out, no harm in looking.

Thanks.

Keith,

Thanks for the advice.
I'll definitely take a close look and try and stick to the major companies.

Keith brings up a good point. Anyone can print up their own COA's. I do for items I have autographed at shows and private signings.

The top outfits with the best reputatipns also come with the highest price tags for their items. The kinds of stuff you seem to be looking for probably do not fall into the category of items you are "investing" in for potential value in the long run. So, getting things authenticated may not be an expense you dont want or need to consider.

As for things like Malone jerseys, any itme you might want which has a "local" flavor to it is probably readily available in the ares. I have a guy I get all my Pens, Steelers, Pirates stuff through who does nothing but private signings. Only problem is you have to be a licensed resaler in order to get things from that company at a decent price.

There are also about 3-4 shows a year in the Pittsburgh which have old timers and more obscure former Pittsburgh players come in for shows. I get mail notices about these shows, will have to see if I have any still lying around as I usually trash em soon after they arrive.

I'll help you locate things if I can find any specific item you might be looking for.

Best Advice. I'm a collector as well and I remember buying small items on ebay and was like what company did the COA come from. Needless to say, I get all autographs in person now.

Speaking of autograph shows, just got one of my flyers in todays mail.

Feb 29-March 2nd collectors show at the Westmoreland Mall in Greensburg. Some old time Steelers to be signing along with Carey Davis (new rookie). Cant say I know anything about this show at the mall but figured you might be able to at least take a look see for fun.
