Bankroll Question - Need Help

I have been betting sports for years with some very good and some very bad years. I am trying to do it right this year and not dig myself into a hole if the season starts slowly.
My question: I have a $400 bankroll to start the football season with. What amount do you think I should be using as my betting units per game? Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Pay no heed to the smart a-- answers. With $400.00, a lot is going to depend on how many games per week you play. If you play 4 or more games per week, you are really going to have to start very low, or risk losing everything before the season is half over. If you wager $25.00 a game, and 4 games a week, you have enough to last you 4 weeks. Obviously you do not want to tap out in 4 or 5 weeks, so it is really up to you.

Fatman im just trying to help, why grind it out at 10-50 $ a game?? with amount likes that ull have to go on some really unbelivable streak to make any serious profit. Youre better of playing heavy at the start trying to build up a bankroll you can bet with, Bet 1 to 5% on a game, maybe 10 % if you really like the game, an in your case thats a 40 $ bet, i wouldnt even bother. but gl

I have fun capping the games. Any profit is an added bonus. This for me is entertainment, not using it to pay my mortgage. Go to another thread and stop wasting your time in here. Great picks today by the way. Keep winning 50% of your games. I'll make sure not to follow you so I don't go broke.

5% of your bankroll. In your case, no more than $20 per bet.

Money Management is just as important as picking winners......In fact, without both you are destined to fail. The single biggest reason why sports betters fail is because of the lack of proper money management. Just like a good business plan, you must have a plan for betting on sporting events.

All plans must start with a bankroll, defined as the amount of money that you have put aside to risk on sports wagering.....Your bankroll does not have to be the amount of money that you have on hand, just the amount that you can comfortably lose without effecting your lifestyle. For the sake of this conversation we are going to use $5,000.....Next we will select a unit wager...This may cause some alarm in many of you, but we use 2% of our bankroll as a unit wager...$5000x.02=$100.....$100. would be a 1 unit play.....Wagering on sports is very similar to a stock on Wall Street. Your bankroll is going to go up and down, so we must be able to weather the storms and a 2% wager allows us to do that.

Using the above formula:
$400.00 X .02 = $8.00 per unit

I received a lot of opinions from cappers that I highly respect: Baseball, terps, viper, and judge, I appreciate them all. Ricky, I like your formula. It looks like evreyone agrees so I will keep it to the percentage that you have recommended. I appreciate your time and answers. Thanks everyone and hopefully we will all have a successful season no matter how much our wagers are.
