Banning: One moderator's perspective

This is my opinion only

First off banning is not good business, you are always looking for expansion not downsizing but sometimes there is unfortuantely no other alternative

Let's hypothetically say I own a bar. Welll who do I want in my bar? People who like to drink and spend money.

If I have a customer that stops in daily and drops $20 bucks he is the ideal customer. The last thing I want to do is ban him from coming into my establishment and dropping a hundered bucks a week.

But when that customer becomes obnoxious and a distraction to the other patrons of my bar that is a problem and in turn hurts my business. This stops the other patrons from having a good time and also prevents new customers from frequenting my establishment.

The same analogy can be applied to Cappers Mall and unfortunately a few long time members have recently recieved bannings.

Do we want to ban? NO....but if it helps keep the peace of the rest of the forum it makes our decision that much easier.

P.S. If anyone wants to flame away have at it

The bar analogy is a good one, see it happen all the time being in a pool league and visiting many different bars. One guy got banned from our home bar last week, guy spent a lot of money every week and was for the most part a pretty good guy but when he drank too much he became a major problem. So the bad outweighed the good and ............he gone.

None of the members that were banned were banned without being previous warned

Fine line to walk. There's a lot of forums in forumville and the only thing that separates this place from others is being a "high road" forum with heavier moderation. (certainly not the rewards, that's been done elsewhere) That being said the drama at less moderated places is a lot more entertaining if you like that sort of thing. To each his own.
