Living in Nashville in the 60's, Willie Nelson was down on his luck so he sold this little country diddy that he had written for $50. Nightlife went on to become the most covered country song of all time. This version is performed by The Highwaymen (Nelson, Cash & Jennings).

Industry mags report that nearly 60% of all country music is sold at Wal-mart. So they sell the most CDs, but consider the audience demographics. Most who buy country have never downloaded any music, either. Internet availability has severely impacted sales in most other major genres.

BTW, I was twice voted "country DJ of the year" nationwide. DJed country on my nights off from being the only white guy DJing hip-hop in an all-black club back home.....and they loved it. Country is much, much easier. I'm always surprised when country fans don't know the difference between a slow 2-step and a waltz and a cha-cha and a west coast swing and a hustle and an east coast swing and a 2-step and a line dance and a slap leather. I always played for the national competition dancers and let the regular hicks figure it out.

I do have to say, Rev, I enjoyed many of the George Strait songs more than most. His regular writers were very good with slow 2-steps and cha-chas.
