Best Day/Worst Day

I'll be turning 40 later this year and I was just thinking about the mid-life crisis movie City Slickers (one of my all time favorites) and how Billy Crystal, Bruno Kirby, and Daniel Stern were on their cattle drive and discussing their BEST and WORST days of their lives.

So if you could just pick your one best and one worst day, what would they be?

And just like the movie you cannot pick when your kids were born (if you have any) because that's "too easy".

My Worst Day: I was in my early twenties...my first true love, you know, the one that you'll never forget...well, after a bit of detective work and the signs that become blatantly obvious after-the-fact, I discovered that she was cheating on me. This was AFTER two years of a committed relationship, getting engaged, and building a new house together. She took up with one of her co-workers and snuck around for a good couple of months before it all came crashing down.

Well, a couple of weeks after I moved out and into a 21-story apartment building (I lived on the top floor) I was seriously considering jumping. I was so distraught and the heartache was so much (such is the life of the young and naive) that I desperately wanted the pain to end. I remember being so cold (literally shaking) and thinking that it would be so easy to just hop over the railing of my balcony.

Obviously, I stepped back from the edge (literally and figuratively), but that day was the worst day of my life.

My Best Day: It was a Friday, over five years since the disintegration of the aforementioned engagement...I was sick like a dog but I went to work and afterwards crashed into my bed, exhausted from all of the coughing and congestion. But a friend called me up to invite me out to play pool and meet with one of her re-connected childhood friends and a few others people. Of course, I said "no" because I was feeling under the weather.

But after I hung up and laid there staring up at the ceiling for a few minutes, I thought to myself why not get my sorry ass out of bed and go a meet some new people.

Since my "worst day", I had experienced a sporadic string of short-term tepid relationships that always ended with me thinking that the bachelor's life was the one I was destined to lead. I figured what really did I have to lose by going and making some new friends. No expectations...just go out and have some fun. So I got up, called my friend, and met up with her and a bunch of other people to play some pool.

I met my wife that night. And since then, the number of "great" days just keep cumulatively mounting up...

Best Day Ever: July 14th, 2007 - my wedding...enough said....

Worst Day Ever: February 15th 1989 when my grandfather passed away. since my parents got divorced at an ealry age we had to live with my grandparents for several years. my grandfather was my daily father figure who taught me alot of the things i know today. golf was his life and he took me under his wing at 5 years old and taught me the game and all the lessons around it. even after his leg was amputated from cancer he still shot in the 80's and was at the course everyday trying to get as many rounds in as possible before the end. he also saved extra money from the day i was born and put it into stocks that helped pay for 75% of my college education

to this day i still think about him everytime im out on a golf course or general things that i know he would like to be a part of.

Best day I have 3. My wedding and the birth of my 2 kids.

Several worst days too. Lost my grandmother, fatherinlaw, sister, motherinlaw all in a very short period of time.

My parents are both still alive but my wife lost both of hers. I was pretty close to her dad. Sucks.

I have been very fortunate to not have lost anyone who I've been very close too. Both of my grandparents have passed on, but I was not very close to them. It was very sad to see them go, but it was more sad to see how their loss affected my father. I had never seen him cry before when his dad died, and I've never seen him cry since.

Best day was when I met my wife. There are a few worst days. My father passed away, my wife had cancer and is in remission, my brother in law and friend since elementary school passed away 4 years ago at the age of 41.

Worst Day

May 31st 2003 the night my father passed away...still hurts, the route I used to drive home went by the hospital and the school he worked at, can't do that route anymore to much pain....

Best Day - about to happen when I get my new hip and I can F**King walk without pain!
