I grew up using a purple plastic worm with white stripes, only lure I used for about 10 years and used to kill them with it.

Also use a yellow spinner bait regularly, but that is also because it doubles as a pike lure and you can fish for both at the same time. That is in Michigan though, not sure in other places.

If your fishing deep water in really hot spots of the country, then usually you have to turn to a crankbait or something that will dive down to where the fish are at. Went to Table Rock Lake in Missouri last summer, one of the top 5 bass lakes in the nation. It was 95 degrees, and we couldn't catch anything unless we were down 30 feet where the fish were at.

Hard to beat worm fishing, takes alot of patience and you have to work it slow.......Cast, let the ripples go away and slowly work it back......I usually bump it about three times let it sit and repeat........When you get a hit, let the line go slack, you'll see the line moving.......Once he has it reel down, let the Bass tighten the line and set the hook...........I've caught alot of Bass in NC in the 6 to 11 lb range.......Going tuna fishing in Mexico Sunday morning, looking forward to it and dorado fishing whatever dorado is I think it's related to the dolphin family..........Keep it Reel Knock!

Water temp above 55 degrees Zoom Fluke {soft plastic bait} nothing better
water temp cold- Berry jigging spoon {they normally hit this on the fall so be ready}
windy cond- Big spinnerbait {throw off points with a mud line,a killer technique}

plastics usually work pretty well, but when I see my buddies pulling out 4 pounders and 6 pounders and tossing my plastics and not doing too well. Cranks never really work that well for me. I live very close tot he ocean, so I'm used to catching striped bass, salmon (whenever a the state allows) rock cods and ling cods, I'm a beginner on the lake. Kncok has a good point as do all of you and I think I'm retrieving it too fast.

Rubber worms with a bullet weight in the front. We use this in the Sacramento river for Striper. We also use live mino's which is a good way to float down a river and get drunk. Love ripping fish with rubber worms. My fav when it comes to bass fishing.

Speed is important because you want the worm to fall and glide at the same time. You can either reel the line in or jerk and tug the line in. I try them both so I can see what the fish like the best. If you are fishing in a lake you ought to take up Fly Fishing. It doesn't get any better.

Nothing works better than a big juicy nightcrawler, especially if you dig them yourself.
If those aren't easy to get/available then a shiny spinner of any sort works well too. if you want to troll, a white grub (fake) works well.

But if you've got nightcrawlers and there's a bass anywhere nearby they will bite.
