Betting on the Australian federal elections heats up

The Federal election will smash all previous betting records. Current markets have Kevin Rudd's Labor finally moving back into clear favouritsm after the government failed to achieve a post-budget poll boost. Labor are trading at 1.77 (ex. com.) at Betfair (limited liquidity), with the Canberra-based Portlandbet still offering a fixed 1.72. Meanwhile, another Canberra-based bookie, Sports Acumen, are offering a best 2.20 about the Coalition being returned to office. So we have some differing opinions coming out of Canberra - who would have thought?

Bookmaker Labor Coalition
Sportingbet Australia 1.70 2.10
IAS Bet/Canbet 1.70 2.12
Centrebet 1.65 2.15
Betfair 1.77 2.12
Sportsbet 1.68 2.15
Sports Acumen/Global 1.64 2.20
Portlandbet 1.72 2.08
BetChoice 1.67 2.20
Lasseters 1.70 2.10

Markets correct at 23:30 28/05/07
