Apparently this book was just launched on MJ after his death...don't know if there was a "field" prop on the books, but it looks like this guy's is the first out after his death.
__________________________________________________ _______________ >found at sympatico.ca news page ----------------------------------------------------------------------- He's a Canadian Nostradamus." That's what one man-on-the-street jokingly told CTV news cameras after perusing Halperin's new tell-all book," Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson." On December, 24, 2008 the Canadian author made an eerie prediction: The King of Pop would die within six months. To the world's shock, Jackson died on June 25, 2009. His passing came six months and one day after Halperin's guess was delivered as gospel to the world by the American publication In Touch. "A source leaked Jackson's medical records to me in December," so Halperin told CTV's etalk. Halperin's "bombshell" book and its "insights" into Jackson's life and death was the focus of an exclusive etalk interview this week. "I said he had a lung disease which was potentially fatal," Halperin told etalk's reporters. "Unfortunately the media never caught on to the second part of my sentence, where I said he could live to 110 with that disease and die of something else beforehand." Halperin spent five years researching this exposé. It highlights the last 15 years of Jackson's life. The writer also went undercover as a hairdresser to infiltrate Jackson's inner circle. Originally titled "Michael Jackson: The Return from Exile," Halperin's book was ready to go to the presses one day before Jackson died. After some furious rewrites and a change of title, "Unmasked: The Final Years of Michael Jackson" hit bookstores on Tuesday. Halperin's publisher is predicting that "Unmasked" could be the biggest in Quebec, if not Canada. Rights to "Unmasked" have been sold to the U.S. publisher Simon & Schuster and the French publishing giant Hachette Livre, which will distribute 100,000 copies of the unauthorized biography. Halperin's book fact or fiction? It's a hot book, to be sure. It's also the first to be published since Jackson's death. In it Halperin says that Jackson was gay and was not a child molester. The singer bleached his skin and did not have vitiligo, a chronic disorder that causes depigmentation of the skin. Halperin claims that Debbie Rowe, Jackson's ex-wife and mother of Prince Michael, 12, and Paris, 11, was paid $6 million for their first child. He also offers up many "conclusions" regarding Jackson's mysterious medical troubles. "He was addicted to drugs for years," Halperin told etalk. "Three years ago he had a cocaine addiction. He checked into a big rehab clinic in the states. He always tried to get help. Unfortunately the people around him never really wanted to help him properly." Halperin also claims that Jackson considered moving to Montreal in the future. "Montreal was on his radar because he didn't think he'd have the paparazzi chasing him here," Halperin told etalk. "He liked the life. He was just worried about the cold winters. But it's one place he considered bringing up his children." As Halperin writes, "Now that he's gone, maybe it's time to shelve the suspicions and appreciate the music." Are you buying any of this? Roger Friedman of showbiz411.com does not. "Riddled with mistakes" is how Friedman describes Halperin's well-timed exposé. "Beware these sudden 'tell alls' and 'expert biographies' of Michael Jackson," Friedman wrote on July 13, 2009. This controversial tell-all turf is nothing new to Halperin. He is the author and coauthor of nine books, including "Celine Dion: Behind the Fairytale," "Hollywood Undercover: Revealing the Sordid Secrets of Tinseltown," and "Who Killed Kurt Cobain." Halperin has also written an unauthorized biography of Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberté. Dion's lawyers, not surprisingly, were displeased when Halperin's unauthorized bio was first published in 1997. In April of 1998 Dion's lawyers sent a letter to the supermarket tabloid The National Enquirer, which wanted to publish an excerpt from the paperback bio. According to The New York Times, Dion's lawyer Martin Singer declared that there was "not one scintilla of truthfulness in the malicious, fictional and fabricated story.'' Can the same be said of "Unmasked?" Behind the big, funky white sunglasses Halperin wears throughout his etalk exclusive is a brain busy tallying up book sales. "Yeah, I would read anything on [Jackson] just to get every aspect of it," another ordinary Canuck told CTV news cameras about Halperin's book this week. Be forewarned Jacko fans. As Friedman writes, "You can write anything about the dead. This party is only getting started."
