that's always a first step, you have a set a specific an attainable goal so now its time to move on and set another goal. I suggest you still try and break 100 on a consistant basis before tempting to break 90 and what not and than you can figure out a handicap

ITs already an encouraging sign that you are now hooked on the game and are determined to improve. However, takes time and more practice than just regular tee times.

There are a few pro's here. I currently have a 2 handicap, my distance is a weakness that i have to make up for it with the short irons and short game, i'm satisfied with that.

When you go to the driving range, have a plan, don't go there just to hit golf balls, go there and figure out what you want to improve/practice on. A lot of golfers just tend to think its a good time to smack the the driver around when really you only use your drive no more than 12 times a round. Do some target practicing don't just hit straight out into the field but rather pick a specific target to practice shot selection and distance control.

I shoot in the high 70's (8 handicap)... I have very good distance, very good putting, very good mid irons, but my chipping is what has been killing me lately... I hope to be either a sports journalist, or a golf pro when I am finished university.. I am currently participating in multiple tournaments where if I play well enough, I will receive a job at one of a few golf courses in Ontario.. (as I have mentioned in one of my threads before) if there are any questions you have feel free to ask... btw.. Toronto Mike's FINAL comment is GOLD... Some of my friends just hit 10 shots with every club.. that is not helpful, you need to invision the distance to the green--- is there bunkers or water in front of the green, are you in the rough,,, if so is there a tree in your way... What I have done in the past, and I recommend you do in the future, if you have a few hours... get a scorecard with a layout of the golf course you will be playing next. Then play the driving range like you are playing the course... Say you drive the ball, and notice it's about 260 and far to the left, then see how much you'll need to hit to the green and your probably in the rough so decide if you need some extra club etc. lol, it might sound stupid, but I gaurentee it will give you a better grasp for the course you will be playing, and how to play it when you actually go!
