Bryce Harper

"the Lebron James of baseball"

just a soph in high school and on the cover of SI. draws comparisons to justin upton, arod, griffey, and me. k not so much griffey....lol

throws clocked at 96
4.3-4.4 speed
hit the furthest homerun in tropican field history at 502 ft. has hit homeruns as far as 570

heres where it gets interesting. he has boras as advisor and he wants to be drafted in 2010, but he isnt eligible until 2011.

he is thinking of getting his GED, enrolling in a juco, which would make him eigible in 2010. and its all his parents idea......rediculous

scouts said he would be a top 5 pick in this years draft and will prob command an 8-10 mil signing bonus or a major league deal like rick porcello got.

prob wont get strausburg money because hes a high school player with limited wood bat experience. he also wants to be in the majors before his 20th birthday like justin upton.

1st brandon jennings goes to europe, then jeremy tyler drops out of high school to play in europe, now a kid who will get a ged after his junior year and play juco ball as a 17-18 yr old.

whos the 1st person to completely skip high school and go pro after 8th grade at the age of 14.

whats even worse is how cant you just wait til after high school? its not the nfl and 3 years of college or nba with 1 year. the mlb is the easiest one of them all and now someone is trying to get around this.

baseball is the hardest transition from amatuer to pro. some kids do have the talent to play before they turn 20. both uptons, pujols, elvis andrus is a really good player, griffey did it.

but its not easy i know 6 people who are playing pro ball, and its tough learning how to hit with wood bats and to hit pro pitching. high school kids dont throw cutters, or have a + changeup or throw 96mph with control. most high schoolers throw a 1 and a 2, and thats it.

the myth is drafting high school pitchers is a huge risk, but actually its about the same for high school hitters too. they need around 1500 ABs before they become fully comfortable.

all the best to this kid i hope he becomes a star, but dont rush it, jeez, at least finish high school and then get paid.

but mac you do understand that people are saying he can get 8-10 mil RIGHT NOW? that's the point of him looking for ways to go pro sooner - his draft stock is basically maxed out already. it would be stupid for him to do anything but try and get paid as soon as he can. the learning and toiling in the minors will come regardless of when he goes pro, might as well bank that signing bonus next year and let the money work for you.

i agree...no sense staying in school just to do what you will do later...nobody ever makes a big deal about kids working as actors or playing tennis at a young age...pretty much the same thing..besides..usa high school diplomas are pretty much useless anyway..may as well take what you can and bank on it..it might not be there at a later date

not now, he would command that in 2011 as #1 overall. im all about people getting paid and doing it when ur stock is high, but finish high school at least lol

he would get low balled right now because he has no other options. prob around 2-3 mil.

if hes this good as a soph, then he should be just as good if not better in 2 years. you dont get better playing high school ball, you get better playing summer ball like AAU and Legion or traveling club teams.

hes not making this choice, his parents are

The farce is that latino players have been signing contracts at the age of 16-17 for years. What's all the hub bub if an American kid wants to do it.
