Buying a gun

Got robbed for the second time this year.
I could have caught them but felt like it was too big a chance not being armed.

I've never wanted to own a gun but it's to get serious here in LA.
I grew up with guns but never a shotgun....
I know these dudes will be back...I will be ready next time.

This is what i'm looking at.
Input please

Mossberg 500

cant go wrong with the pump 12 gauge but not my cup of tea

a 1911 gives you the same stopping power with more versatility, for sport at a range as well

the Kimber Raptor 1911 45 caliber, beautiful gun, wont cost as much as a wilson combat, reasonable around 1100

Im not sold on the mossberg..
I want the pistol grip.. no doubt.
I'm not sure i want to deal with the pump.. although it is a room clearing sound in the dark.
I hate this is happening in my hood.

I'm going to check out the 1911

Think a shotgun is the call in this case...

1911 is the way to go for a handgun if concealment isnt an issue, then you look at glock 9mm

its big and heavier but its american made craftsmanship, easy to break down, and frankly more stopping power than a 9mm

Should i worry about wall penetration with my neighbors, girlfriends kid, house guests with a 45?
My house is 1890's... the walls are nothing really the house is not sheeted with plywood under the siding.

I have extensive firearms training, and without knowing all of the details of your particular wants/needs will tell you a shotgun is by far the best CQC (close quarter combat) firearm on the planet. Someone with very little training can win a gun battle with a shotgun for various reasons the shotgun offers.
Handguns on the other hand offer better concealment, but in a scenerio of a gun battle you will need a certain level of training.
A pistol grip shotgun is not for the weak, you will need to practice with it in order to learn how to control it. The Mossberg 500 is a fine weapon, nothing wrong with it at all.
I do advise you to check with your local law on the possesion and use of pistol grip shotguns and firearms in general. Best of luck with your situation.
P.S. checkout the 410 pistol.

That Mossberg 500 will create more fear (which should be your aim) than a small hand held pistol for inside your home. I'd go that way no question.

Why?

I have a 12 gauge 3-3 1/2" mag semi-auto w/ 30" barrel.

For pheasant/goose.

Works flawlessly.

Alittle advice, dont buy it unless you are 100% certain you will use it if needed.
