Cappers' Stock Picks?
Just tossing something new out there to see if there is a bite...
I have been doing a lot of research lately to rebalance my portfolio a bit (try and lock in some gains and find some new opportunities), and in doing so I thought a thread like this might be fun to put out. I have read a couple different studies on this, and they tend to point out that frequent Las Vegas visitors and gamblers in general tend to be more fiscally responsible than people who don't gamble. So since we're all good enough with money that we can set some aside to play with from time to time... What are your favorite stock picks and pans this year? Mutual funds, bonds, etc.? Not looking for anyone to brag about account sizes or 3,000% stock gains or anything absurd like that, but a good debate that helps make money can never hurt right? I'll start this off with a couple. Stocks I'm looking to unload soon: Electronic Arts and Qualcomm - both have been good to me, but maybe now it's time to lock in some profit and find something new? Stocks I own that I'd recommend: Bank of America (pays big dividend, still growing) and Pfizer (decent dividend and America's drug king). Not as exhilarating as turning a 90% profit on an "investment" that cashes in on a buzzer beater or game winning field goal, but I'd love to hear your opinions regardless! cman, I started tracking KIND ever since you mentioned them and even picked up a few shares roughly a month ago. The stock has just been treading water since I grabbed it, but from my own research it does look like an intriguing company and I wanted to have something else in the health sector.
Just like you said, the stock split today. Thanks for the info bud. |

Missed this the first time around. Don't have any individual stock holdings, but The Buffalo Funds (Small Cap) fund has been very good to me.
Also invested a little in the Technology Fund in Oct 02, been zooming since. Not sure if the Nasdaq can continue at this pace. I am thinking of taking some gains also. Looking for something new. **Stupid name, I know, but solid returns** |

Take a look at Porsche..Received this advice from someone else....an undervalued company who could be bought out by one of the big fishes in the next few years

Dom,
Pick up some "DGIT" Digital Generation System, they deliver all of the advertising for Clear Channel networks. They have developed a "triple threat" delivery system and no one in the industy comes close their holdings. Pick them up for $1.70 a share, this thing will be at $2.50 by Christmas time.

I am placing this order tomorrow. I like Intel at this price 28 to 29. This is a true cycling stock..it rarely gets above 45 and rarely goes below 25 (except in 2000-2001). I would expect it to continue its cycle upward now and consider selling at 35-38. Not big profits but a solid stock with a good trackeable history.

This an opinion. I am still considering this one...
Beverly Healthcare. BEV They have completed thier exit strategy from Florida. Of their expected 200 million in lawsuits 120 Mill of that was in Florida. They have completed their developement of their "captured insurance company" Stock is at 8. With the hospitals coming under a new payment system that cuts their inhouse stay days in half. They will have to rely on providers like Beverly to complete the rehab so patient admissions should go up. Stock is at 8 I would consider selling at 12-15 Here is the risk...unlike Kindred Healthcare that I recommended earlier this year Beverly is not as diversified. So if Congress decides to pass legislation cutting funding it will hurt this company. Kindred has 4 legs to its company (nursing home, hospitals, rehab, and Pharmacy) Beverly does not divide its services up like that and does not own a pharmacy division. wde

Fanz, that DGIT company does look pretty intriguing. I only took a glance at their profile and put them on my watchlist, but they do look pretty tempting since most of my stocks right now lean to conservative.
cman, I've had my eye on Intel also. I recently picked up a bunch of shares in Microsoft but it was almost a coinflip decision to go with them over Intel at the time. I'm kicking myself because I almost bought a bunch of shares in MBG (Mandalay Bay) after reading about them being one of the more promising businesses in the casino industry but I never pulled the trigger. Then MGM put a bid on them and the MBG share price went through the roof! Oh well. A couple other one I've been tracking recently I like - HIT (Hitachi - makes all kinds of stuff but I think their high end TV business and recent foray in to hard drives will keep them growing) and TUES (fast growing retailer selling closeout upscale home furnishings and gifts). |

Dom,
DGIT is a great stock to own right now, they appear to have dipped due to the fact they bought up another company, it is a very undervalued stock at $1.63, it will get to the $2.50 mark by X-MAX. As for MBG, I own 2000 shares in Mandalay Bay, I bought them at $26 a share 2 years ago, my store and office are located in Mandalay Bay so I have a little inside info for you, it is still a great stock to by at $70 a share, this thing will hit $100 within 12 months. The stock is in play right now, people know the board will pull the trigger on a healthy sell. Bill Richardson, one of the CEO's will purchase approx. 8,000 shares this week at his option of $50 a share. The players are going to purchase more and more this summer. As for the health of the resort's, it is great, here at the Bay we are sold out or riding at 75% capacity every night, same with the Luxor. $70 a share is alot to invest ($7000 + commission), but if you are willing to hold onto it for 12-18 months, you will get a 25% return on your money.

Thanks for the FYI cman, the stock has been kind to me so far (and no pun intended by that) so I'll be holding onto it for awhile.
Picked up some DGIT this week too (thanks Fanz) - this company looks like a good value play. Definitely risky, but looks like lots of upside. |

Dom, I picked up some more DGIT too, along with a couple of my friends. The acquisition of AGT Broadcast is a great sign. They are buying up competitors and still have a huge reserve of cash.

adding Microsoft today
(msft) at $28 I think this undervalues this company. Despite the rhetoric coming from the European Union saying they violated antitrust rules (who doesn't, God forbid anyone make a profit in Europe)...I think the EU will relax and reduce the fine and allow Microsoft to continue to bundle many of their products Long term ownership here. If I get a spike I may sell at 35, but I plan to hold this stock longterm now that Micrsoft is paying dividends. wde
