Cell Phone Help

I know it's hard to believe, but I have not ever broken down and purchased a cell phone, the main reasons being I HATE talking on the phone and I also liked having a sanctuary away when I didn't want people to be able to get a hold of me. Kind of have to get one now for various reasons.

Anyways, that being said, Looking for advice on what I should look into. I will probably use it rarely. Looking for something that I can access the internet, texting capabliites etc.

Also need to know what kind of calling plans I will be stuck with and what kind of prices I'm looking at.

Any advice is welcome and appreciated

Welcome to 1995 Gerk… I personally use the BlackJack II... It does it all and the plan I use runs about $80 a month

Believe me, of all the abuse I get from people I know, this is what I get the most about and if you know me, there's plenty to abuse me about.

Thanks for the info

Once you know what provider you are going to use it will be easier to decide on your phone

That can be flexible also. Looking for a plan with minimum useage as I tend to think I wont't be using it too often, only for others to have a way to get a hold of me

The problem with getting a plan with minimum usage is if you go over your minutes, they friggin rape you on fees. I have At&T. It’s so-so. I think you can get a decent plan on any of the big 4 (At&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile) that includes UNL nights and weekends, text and internet for around the same amount of money (between $50 and $100).

Down here we also have a company called Metro PCS where you can get an UNL plan for like $50 per month. I am not sure if you have something like that in Minny.

Finally – if you really want something for emergency use only, you are better off getting a pay as you go phone where you you prepay your minutes, but this will only make sense if you are really only needing limited usage. But if you want internet, you will have to get a decent plan.

Most companies you can get TEXT only added on for like $5, $10 a month.

AT&T has rollover minutes – which means if you don’t use your minutes one month, they rollover to the next month.

Most of the companies, you can get a decent phone for free or discounted with a 1-2 year contract.

One of the cheap plans from At&T is something like this for about $40 per month (no text or internet)

Rate Plan Details
Anytime Minutes 450
Night & Weekend minutes 5000
Mobile to Mobile minutes Unlimited
AT&T Unity Minutes Not Included
Long Distance $0.00
Roaming Charges $0.00
Additional minutes $.45 per minute
One-time activation fee $36.00
Contract length 2 years

Just a few tidbits, hope that it helps

every engineer would start with 'it depends on various things'...

reading that you didn't use one yet, i suppose you give a shit about 'managment of contact details' or mp3-player device

and if you really need the cell phone just that some1 can call you, i suppose any prepaid shizzle and any mobile will do teh job...

my 2nd last mobile, a nokia, lol it didn't survive the first day until i drove over it... no shit... cell in the jacket, putting it over the arm to open the door and not dropping the coffee, trying to place the jacket on teh backseat... phone drops and lays on the drive... moving teh car out of the garage... want to check my schedule, can't find my mobile so i call it and the noise comes from the garage... well... now i got a sony... made of steel

If you end up going with Verizon let me know

One of my groomsmen works for them and I'll make sure you don't get nickel/dimed until you're broke

AT&T or Verizon are the providers you should consider

have an iphone and love it. but it's probably overkill for someone getting their 1st phone. $200 for the phone and $90/month.
