What station do you listen to???

You should call them up and correct them because the information that they gave out, as you have stated, is INCORRECT.

What they should have said was.....CHANGE the batteries.
Not simply check them.

Fire departments have said that batteries should be changed at the START & END of daylight savings time. Afterall, a life is worth a lot more than the $1.99 for the batteries.

If your smoke alarm hasn't been tested 6 months , and you check your batteries in a charger to make sure the batteries are o.k. and
they are charged then you don't need to replace them do you ?

Its just what the Fire Dept told us.
Here is the actual directive:

Replace batteries regularly
Change your batteries when you change your clocks' in the Spring and Fall.

When the battery is in a "complete" circuit, you may feel that since the device is not "ON", that no power is being use. Theoretically this is true.....however, there is what is called "leakage"

If the smoke detector hasn't gone off in 6 months, which is a good thing, the voltage on that battery may not be the 1.5V that it was 6 months ago.

All the Fire Dept is saying is.....why risk it, pop in a new battery for ease of mind.

But of course, as in any discussion, you do what you think is best for you.
