Chicago

Hey guys. Going to Chicago for the first time with the wife Feb 3-7. Never been before, staying at the Sofitel Water Tower and looking for some things to do in the area and places to eat. Any suggestions?

I'm mainly asking from a guys perspective...I know she can find all the shopping at Miracle Mile and rape my bank account just fine.

Don't really have anything on the agenda when we go other than a Broadway show (wife's Christmas present)....

Thanks in advance...

P.S. As a lifelong South Texan I'm freezing my balls off already just thinking about the trip...

As far as food goes, its hard to really go wrong here. Try and visit the little hole in the wall food joints, sometimes you can find the best meal there

I was looking into a Blackhawks game but ended up passing on tickets. May look into Bulls...

Any hole in the wall recommendations?

Get some pizza at Geno's East; couple of blocks from Water Tower Place. You can walk there if you can stand the cold

Bulls and Blackhawks are out of town on long trips.

It depends on what you like to do. Some guys are different.
Give us some help and us Chicagoans can help you with the rest.

The food part is easy, you really cannot screw it up.
Get a big steak, and eat deep dish pizza.
Many, many choices to choose from, too many to name.

Pretty much anything that will keep me from freezing my ass off. I enjoy a pounding brews, historical stuff, and sports.

Was planning on going going to Gibson's. And a couple out of Giordanos, Uno, and Geno's. And hitting up the main tourist stuff like the Hancock tour and Field Museum. Nothing else planned at this point.

Isn't there two good hot dog places right next to each other? Heard they were really good.

Think one is called American or something like that. Saw it on food wars.

There's one here but my friend from Chicago says it's better there, so I'd say go to Al's Beef, I got my sandwich dipped in the Au Jus sauce, was pretty damn tasty, I don't know where in Chicago they are but I'm sure they have lots of locations.

Al's Beef? There is the original in River North near downtown.

I barfed in my mouth.
They closed down 6 months ago in my town.
Al's has very good burgers and fries, nothing else.
Surprised they are still in business.
Dukes and Johnnie's hands down are the 2 best in the area.
Again, not near downtown.

Geno's East?
They closed down 18 months ago in my town too.

Superdawg, Weiner's Circle, Hot Doug's, Jimmy's Red Hots
All are good hot dog joints, none are near downtown though.

.
A lot of people like food that couldn't make it in my town.
That shocks me. It's not like other chains are moving out, they are moving into my town. Chick-Fil-A just opened a month ago.

It's the smaller mom-and-pop businesses that are knocking the crap out of these chains.
