The Chicago Code

Anyone else looking forward to this ?

Two of my favorite shows ever are The Shield/The Wire....

I saw a couple previews for The Chicago Code before... didn't think much of it, because there are always a ton of cop shows. Actually paid attention to the ad on tonight's game, and heard it is from the writer/producer of The Shield. After I heard that I couldn't wait!!!

Its on tomorrow. Hope its good, and hopefully now that I have high expectations that doesn't kill it a bit.

Agree. The Shield was the best show ever, IMO. Going to give it a shot tonight.

Saw it.

Pros:

That giant-foreheaded guy playing the lead is a better actor than he looks, and overall, there are some good actors on the show.

The chick from Flashdance is only moderately distracting as the "top cop" in the city.

Cons:

Production is too slick. I think The Shield did it right with a more grainy, hand-held feel. Tough to be a gritty cop drama when the look is too glossy.

The writing is okay, but it felt like it was a hodge-podge of leftover characters, lines, and brief cool moments that they just never had an opportunity to work into episodes of The Shield.

Some of the teasers in the third act felt a little forced and manipulative. (The "oh, I thought that cop was a good guy, but he's cheating on his fiance" moment, the "you like the Cubs but I like the Sox but we gotta work together anyway" situation, as well as the "political leaders in Chicago might be the puppeteers of the city's criminal underword" suggestions.)

Definitely give it a shot, see what you think. I may be too critical, but I don't think I'll be able to get over some of the show's aspects if they don't change.

On a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being The Shield, 9.5 being Breaking Bad) I'd give it a 5 right now. For me, that's more watchable than most crap on regular TV.

If this is half as good as The Wire, it is one helluva a show.

Okay...for me, tonight was the night that The Chicago Code broke through. I've been hanging in there, liking it just enough, but the characters have evolved over the last few weeks, and tonight the story got to some new "I gotta see how this works out" points. Good stuff. Not Lights Out, Walking Dead, or maybe even Justified good, but really good.

Regular ol' Fox.

They're actually rerunning episode 1 next week, and it's probably On Demand or something. Like I said, it started a litte slow and weak for me, but it's been picking up steam lately.
