Columbia House goes bankrupt

...in Canada only so far. Since Dec. 9.

They say the media is gone. People download instead.

so gone are the days of CDs, DVDs and Blue Rays.

And that's not all but so did Double Day Book Clubs. Been a member of their Military Book Club for years and now it's gone.

...page goes directly to their appointed Trustee.

That sux for me.

as a kid, I can remember when that first batch of tapes (they didn't have CDs then) would arrive. You know, the 8 tapes for a penny.

Seth: Fogell, this ID says that you're 25 years old. Why wouldn't you just put 21, man?
Fogell: Seth, Seth, Seth. Listen up, ass-face: every day, hundreds of kids go into the liquor store with fake IDs, and every single one says they're 21. Pssh, how many 21 year olds do you think there are in this town? It's called f*cking strategy, alright?

Was it only 8? I thought I remembered a dozen and then somehow you got a bonus free one. I thought they were all free, lol

it was a penny, plus the shipping & handling (back then that was less than $2.00). They made $$ based on sheer volume. For a long time they were the only ones out there--until BMG came along. And then CDs. And then the internet. And then bankruptcy. LOL

I think they still operate in the U.S.; they filed for bankruptcy in Canada right now.

They would butcher my last name, so I usually had 5-6 memberships going at once. Buy the minimum, cancel, repeat when they begged you to come back with the same deal. LP then CD collection grew quickly. Pretty sure they didn't give a f*** if they all went to the same address.

Did the Columbia House thing several times over the years. Started back in the vinyl days, then got the tapes, and then the CDs. Used to get the initial package for 1 cent, order the minimum, cancel, and sign up for another 1-cent intro package.
