Lightbulb Common misconception about beer

Someone probably told you before that if beer gets cold and then gets warm it will get "skunky"

Biggest BS going

You would have to chill/warm beer for a month straight to change the taste

Only 2 things effect the taste of beer and that is time and the exposure to direct light

Only the first sip, basically until you wash the bile away

This is true for beers that have preservatives added as most do, but not for a beer like Coors which has no preservatives.

Many people are not aware that every six pack of Coors clearly states, "Keep Refrigerated" because there are no preservatives added. The reason that the Coors family originally fought national distribution was the cost of delivering their beer cold, which it still is to this day. However, once it is delivered to grocery stores, liquor stores and bars, it is frequently allowed to get warm which definitely alters the flavor.

Anyone who has ever had an original Coors Banquet beer in the region close to Golden, Colorado can tell you that the taste is significantly cleaner that a Coors purchased several hundred miles away. A Coors beer direct from the brewery is one of the best tasting lagers that you will ever sample.

All true points until a few years ago when Coors changed their process of sterlization

Nothing has changed and Coors remains non-pasteurized but it will now stand the temp changes and has a shelf life comperable to its competitiors

I am aware of the sterilization process change but still maintain that if allowed to get warm, the flavor is different. A good friend of mine in Houston is a manager at the Coors distributor and I would often get a couple of cases from him. There is no question that it tasted differently than the Coors I would buy at the store.

One question for ya your honor

If Coors was not supposed to ever be warm then why do you see Coors reps walk into a store look at a 250 case display and get a boner?

LOL, I guess the answer is greed but it is the clearly stated policy of the brewery that their beer is delivered cold and at great expense to them, it still is.

Yank, I know that the non-pasteurized issue may have been helped by their new sterilization process but do you think the fact that Coors has no preservatives may come into play as well? I am not certain about this but I think this is also relatively unique to Coors.

Shit, I could go for a nice cold Coors about now. ...

These days my choices are pretty much limited to one of these:

Cerveza Panama is actually pretty good but you can't even find Dos Equis down here and I refuse to drink that Corona garbage.

Basically all the major breweries filter the yeast out before shipping and the yeast is the major problem when on the shelf

When Coors went East they had to change to run with the big dogs and that is why half of the trucks you see aren't refrigerated upon delivery

Any Amstel Bright down their Judge?

Yes that is correct sir. I quit drinking all Coors products because I got bad tasting Banquet Beer cases for Christmas drinking several years back. I always liked the product before that, but it was ruined forever to me. I bet it is killer at the Brewery. Iron City tastes disgusting to me in cans, but when you could go to the brewery here and get it off the keg it was very good. Same experience with Rolling Rock brewed here in Latrobe for years. Clear bottles that let light in made it taste bad sometimes, good otherwise.
