Company Laying people off tomorrow

Anyone else going through this? I don't think I am going to be effected but you never now!!! It could effect a bunch of people that have been with the company 20 plus years...That is what you get for working for a F500 company....would you rather work for a mom and pa place?

Make to much and you are replaceable.

Everybody is going through this. My brother is waiting to be let go and recieve his 20,000 dollar cheque. He said his team leader, who had worked for the Bank (ANZ) for 25 years had been let go and she was in tears. So, its happening everywhere. Its all going to India now. Money is in food, by a shop or reant a shop and sell fish n chips. A good friend of mine did it for a few years and made a good pay. Working for yourself is key or be a tradey.

Most of my friends fathers are getting laid off or are in the process of bieng forced into retirement.

People are working for less and less now also. Companies will be much less likely to be as generous to employees even after the profits comeback, I think this whole thing may be larger then we realize and may last longer then we expect. It seems like a lock to me that there will be a very large seperation of living for 10 years to come minumum. It may be what the country needs in the end, who knows.

You should see all the Toyotas, Lexus', Mercedez', Nissans and Infinities sitting in the harbor , litterally thousands... and they dont look like they expect them to be going anywhere soon. Those auto co.'s must be taking a large hit on that which im sure will end up in more layoffs.

My g/f works for Home Depot who just cut about 7000 jobs I believe. So far she's okay but obviously not a great sign.

I think Sprint Laid off 7,000 people

Home Depot laid off 6,000 people

I have a Brother who works for a fitness company that is letting alot of people go.

I've got a friend who Works for Caterpillar and they let 20,000 go but he was ok.

I have a friend who works for Polaris that their employees have been offered a voluntary leave with a severance package for some employees. But they are cutting too... Polaris Industries Inc., said it was cutting 460 positions worldwide

Arctic Cat cutting 100 jobs mostly in Minnesota.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The final week of January began with a bloodbath for the job market, as over 71,400 more cuts were announced on Monday alone.

At least six companies from manufacturing and service industries announced cost-cutting initiatives that included slashing thousands of jobs.

More than 200,000 job cuts have been announced so far this year, according to company reports. Nearly 2.6 million jobs were lost over 2008, the highest yearly job-loss total since 1945.
p.s - just like you have been using that excuse with the chargers you will continue to do so with this. for like 4 years now chargers are superbowl champs/team to beat with phillip rivers as their messiah, yet it is 2009 and still have no rings. this economy will continue to get worse and by the time the shit really hits the fan big time you will be either still to stupid/stubborn (i still dont know which yet) to admit it or probably just blame it on obama.

i care about the unemployment rate and i focus on the markets. this is not a depression, but a severe recession currently. i think we will be showing recovery signs by the summer...and that would not be a depression. i could be wrong...we'll see

I need technicians...
Security cameras, IP Phone Systems, Fiber/Cat5e/6 installation, Door Access installation.
We keep selling and don't have the techs to keep up with the work load.
We don't pay much, but it beats unemployment. Prob start around $12 - $18 depending on what you can do (this is good for Chattanooga, Tennessee)...

Are you doing commercial work or multi-family housing?, and if either of those how is the fire alarm system installation trade doing over there?

Well put. I have worked for the same company for 34 years and next Friday will be my last day. Plant closing and I am one of the fortunate that was kept on to tear down and ship out. Nothing but bare walls after next Friday.

The kicker is no chance to transfer and the company offered me ZERO dollars severance. Depressed...you better believe it.

All commercial - low voltage; mostly IP (cameras, security access) with some door strikes/maglocks, etc. We don't do fire alarms, just security panels (mostly IP based, but have done some DSC-like panels as well). We have more work than we can keep up with. My guess is the fire guys are doing just as well as we run into them on a lot of the jobs we do.

We do a lot of cabling, phone systems, and paging as well. Hard to find anybody even willing to learn this stuff. Crazzy!!!
