Compaq or Dell?

I am going to replace my Dell inspiron. There has never been any problems with it I am just giving it to my son.Has anyone ever had a compaq? I had a HP laptop before and it was a POS.Are these any better? I am only spending around 700 so I am not buying a Sony or anything like that.Just wanted to know if anyone has one and if it is any good.I have all Dells right now and they are pretty good.

HP and Compaq are the same company now. I would probably go with Dell.

I never looked at the Sony's because I thought they were over a grand but only 800 for the comp to Dell.
