computer experts

I just bought a new desktop and wanted to install my dvd burner from my previous computer onto the new one. I dont have a place to plug the burner into with a ribbon like the old computer. I checked the wires on the dvd rom on the new computer and it has a flat plug-in not like my old computer..am i making any sense? Trying to describe it the best i can.
