Computer help

If you know something about computers, not like me, then throw your two cents in. Please explain in basic terms. I will give you some info on what I'm running. I have a Compaq Presario 2.4 ghz (whatevere that means) processor, 128mb ddr sdram memory, 40 gb ultra dma hard drive, cd-rw drive 48x12x48xmax speed....Oh, I have the cable modem high speed thingy wingy. I let my Nortons expire a couple years ago and I am only running ad-aware se every day. When I run this, I get the following info: It states that I have 33 running processes. (?) 1413 process modules and it scanned 114,451 objects. My problem is that my buddy(seriously) was trying to check his myspace account and it took about a twenty minutes for it to get to his page. Everytime he would try and go to another site on there, it would take forever and a day. The little light (flashing) was going bonkers. He said that something is very wrong. The only other time that this has come into play is (was) when I was trying to download music from a site. I would have to shut off the computer and delete the program and then restart it again. I have defragged a couple weeks ago, but this doesn't seem to be the trouble. I have thousands of digital pics in my computer. Is this my problem? I know that I can buy a couple different things to "store" them. I only have twenty songs in there so that's probably not the problem. Any suggestions without going out and spending money? How do I know what programs that I need and the ones that I can delete? Some of them have names that I don't know if they might be important or are garbage.....Thanks

there are probably BUGS and Ads stuck in your internet explorer, thats why it is creating problems in your web browsing.

i recommend running some anti-bug and anti-commerical programs:
a) Spybot
b) Adaware

these are free and they will get rid of A LOT of bugs in your system
after that, you probably want to update your windows as well

if you want your computer to run faster as well...
make sure you have least amount of icons on your desktop and turnoff unwanted software from your "startup"

save all your pictures in a folder and name them accordingly... therefore your windows wont be trying to access them all the time.

Look for Ashampoo, everybody - it is a must!

When free trial version (which requires email address only) expires this award winning tool still functions, but cleans always only 30% each time you start it. However, the first use is the most radical, it takes off a huge MB amount of garbage from your PC with it's drive cleaner and makes both of you smile again.

many myspace pages have way to much media crammed on them and will bring even the fastest computers to a grinding halt. If you wish you can upgrade your computer with another 128mb of RAM for about $60 that should speed up your load times considerably in situations like these.

sometimes after having a computer for a while you just install too much software on it and a format is the easiest fix. (erasing everything on the harddrive and installing windows and everything else over again) I regularly format my computers probobly about every 2-3 years.

First thing you should do is to get new friends who do not have MySpace accounts

Then, seriously, get AVG or Kapersky antivirus (both free and better than norton or Mcafee) and get a computer resource manager program.

Or just run LINUX

I am running 47 processes right now. I believe a clean install of windows xp would run about 20.

If I close the browser I'll have 16 running.

Press "Ctrl", "Alt" and "Delete" keys together to open Windows Task Manager and check which processes listed are not important to you.
