Computer program question??

Sorry to bore you with such an inquiry, but I need to know. My assistant has recently downloaded Java onto my main computer which she uses. What does this program do. I am not as computer literate as I should be and even when I went to Java site, it really didn't help me with the explanation of what it provides when downloaded. She is a new hire and gone on a vaca for the week, just making sure things are all good here on the office front.

can she read files or emails with this program etc...?

any help greatly appreciated. cheers.

Think of it as a way to make things more "multimedia" on your computer. You can see embedded videos, animation, and programs, etc...

Nothing to worry about. Everybody has Java - it makes the web a better place to be.

Java is like a cup of coffee...you need it to heighten your daily experience. I don't know of any apps that utilize java for remote connectivity but there are few out there for data mining. But unless she has java programming abilities and has taken the source code and created a mining app to connect remotely through a Java app....in other words you should be more concerned that she is taking a vaca so early into her stint with your company.

Actually I realized that Sun makes a remote connectivity java app, but it only works on Solaris, Linux, and HP-Ux...it does not function on Windows based PC's

Thanks fellas for your feedback. Your info was greatly appreciated and somewhat understood.

KELLOSJ...or any of you, re: the bolded line: so does the term " remote connectivity" mean an application to read all files, including emails?....just for future reference.

And as for her taking an early vaca on my dime and time, it was part of the pre-arranged terms when hired as it was already booked by her and she was forthcoming about it. Thanks again for the input everyone, appreciate it.
