Computer Tip #1 : How Much Free Disc Space Does Your Computer Have ?

HOW FULL IS YOUR COMPUTER SPACE?

To check how much space you have on your hard rive

Go to My Computer Icon , right click local disc C
Choose properties

If your disc is more than half full you should proceed to next step.

Get your hard drive close to or below ½ full.

Systems will run more efficiently with more hard drive space
If you can’t live without many of the files on your computer (i.e. not deleting them)
you may want to consider an external hard drive ...

Remove any unnecessary programs not using through start > settings > control panel >
add remove programs.
Now look at when you last used these programs.
It’ll show date last used on the list...
Remove any you don’;t use

If you’re not sure what its for ( Maybe its used to run your computer)
Just google it first ...

Run disc utility clean up

More often, the hard disk space becomes hogged and leaves an user to think what's the cause. , the following are the big users
of hard disk space:

System Restore snapshots
Temporary Internet Files /
History

You can free-up the space by running Disk Cleanup utility.

Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type cleanmgr, and then click OK. Select the drive, More Options, System Restore, Cleanup.

This purges all the restore points except the newest point. This should clear-up most of the disk space. If not, choose the following options disk cleanup and run it:

Remove temporary Internet files
Remove downloaded program files
Empty the Recycle Bin
Remove Windows temporary files

Using the Disk Cleanup utility in Windows XP is a great way to clean up files and get more hard drive space. One of the options is to "Compress Old Files", but the default setting is files older than 50 days. This setting can be modified if you only want to compress really old files.
(MAYBE 180 DAYS?)

The Disk Cleanup utility will scan your hard drive to determine the amount of space to be saved. Click on "Compress old files" in the list, and you will notice the View Files button change to Options. Click that.

You can schedule maintenance tasks like Disk Cleanup.

Go to the Start Menu, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Scheduled Tasks. The Scheduled Tasks window will appear, and you can click on the icon "Add Scheduled Task".

The Scheduled Task Wizard will open. Click Next to continue and scroll down to Disk Cleanup. Click it, then click Next. In the next window, you can select how often you want the task to occur. For most of us, monthly will be sufficient

Click Next. Now select how often you'd like your computer to run this task. It helps if you select a time your computer is likely to be on. You can either select a date (the 3rd of the month) or a day (2nd Monday of the month) to run the task.

Click Next. You may or may not see a username/password window next, but you shouldn't need to enter a password unless you set up multiple accounts on your computer. Click Next, then Finish. and you're all set to keep your disk space clean- no remembering needed!

Needed A Clean up ...

I've always been a fan of partitions. Keep Windows OS stuff on C and keep it small. Put the software and files on separate partitions. Things are much faster and your computer likes it that way.

Your almost running out of room to store Dirty Rotten Whore pictures. Time to buy an external hard drive.
