Conan...headed to TBS

Conan is headed to TBS!

In a pretty surprising turn of events, Conan O'Brien is headed to TBS, NOT FOX. O'Brien will host a new late-night show, Monday to Thursday, at 11PM ET on TBS starting this November, followed by Lopez Tonight at midnight ET. Conan confirmed the news via his Twitter...

"The good news: I will be doing a show on TBS starting in November! The bad news: I'll be playing Rudy on the all new Cosby Show."

Couldn't have gone to Fox. Fox doesn't own any national airtime in late-night. That's why everyone's local Fox nightly news is on an hour before the other network affiliates. Fox would have to get every local affiliate to agree to give up their Seinfeld and Family Guy reruns or whatever they run, along with all the local spots they sell, in exchange for a much smaller chunk of a bigger pie. In many markets, the syndicated reruns on Fox beat one or two of the nightly newscasts on the other nets and the 9-o'clock Fox news beats primetime dramas on the other nets. So, it would be very complex for Fox network to acquire the airtime from the affiliates, and many of them would have to lose money in the process.

Hope people find him on TBS.

So all the people whining that Leno stole Conan's spot that was promised to him, are they hypocrites that dont care about lopez, since conan just stole the spot that was promised to him

or does "team conan" jump the fence to "team lopez"

my guess is they're just whiny hypocrites

the idea of bringing Conan to TBS was hatched by Turner’s entertainment chief Steve Koonin. We’re told Koonin went to George Lopez and said he would only approach Conan if George gave his blessing. We’re told George immediately figured out that having Conan as an 11:00 PM lead-in would be nothing short of amazing for a midnight show.
With Lopez on board, we’re told Koonin then approached Conan with the idea. Conan’s first reaction — he didn’t want to do to someone else what was done to him, referring to NBC’s decision to blindside Conan. Koonin told Conan that George had signed off, but Conan wanted to make sure. George then called Conan to reassure him he was on board and thought they would be great partners.
As for why Conan chose TBS …. the average age of a “Lopez Tonight” viewer is 33, decades younger than the other late-night shows. TBS is the future … so thought Conan.
