Could Christmas be cancelled???

Could Christmas be cancelled?? It happened in England in 1643 when the Puritans banned Christmas celebrations. Among outlawed traditions were Christmas trees and carols. Even making or eating mincemeat was a criminal activity.

In Medieval times, a popular Christmas game was "hot cockles," wherein players took turns striking a blindfolded player, who then had to guess who was striking him or her.

According to superstition, in order to prevent bad luck, you must pack away the Christmas decorations and tree before the 12th night after Christmas.

The New Year's custom of resolving to live a better life originated with the Babylonians, who promised the Gods they would return all borrowed tools and pay off personal debts.

As a forecaster, the groundhog of Groundhog Day is only accurate 28% of the time - about the same as a weatherman.

St. Patrick's Day is a celebration of the patron saint's birthday, right?? Not exactly. When church officials got together to honour Patrick, they were unsure whether his birthday was March 8 or March 9. They added the two together and declared March 17 St. Patrick's dy.

homes - the groundhog is correct 0% of the time. he picks on 2/1 of any year whether spring will come early, or there will be 6 more weeks of winter. spring always starts on 3/1.

additionally, the true odds would be 50% could one properly define what would be an "early spring" or continued winter with respect to the weather. i do not have empirical data immediately available, so will just call BULL SHIT! on the assertion that weathermen are correct 28% of the time.

cheers broham.

Skippy, in case you missed it, Christmas was two days ago and it passed without any hysteria over the possibility of it being cancelled.
