David Beckham coming to America

Soccer topic, but more interested in his salary

Coming to play for the MLS Los Angeles Galaxy

His salary, 5 years $250 million and that is not a misprint

I know disclaimer is a big word, but you are a college boy, no?

Just found the topic more important because it's the biggest contract given to ANY athlete ever so it's more than a soccer topic

yeah the sum is a ridiculous amount...i am not even sure if the salaries of everyone in the league combined totals that amount...but it is a genius move...it will promote the league and will attract a larger fan base for sure...seeing that soccer is the most popular sport played in the usa for kids 12 and under it will further attract people to the sport and have them hang on to playing...i think once they get past that age of 12 (i could be wrong with the exact age) they start to think that they could play sports professionally and drop the interest in playing soccer and look elsewhere...without the exposure of the european powerhouses on usa soil, the idea of pro sports career in football is farfetched...plus now with beckham in the usa, the world will be lured to follow the mls league and will generate even more income...now for the 50 mil...i think it may be a bit over the top...but seeing that azz rod for the yankees makes a pretty ridiculous figure and he doesnt really add any further interest into the yankees, then maybe it isnt that far off

The 250 million is including his endorsements as well. that works out to 1mil a week for the 5 years he is here. Unbelievable.

I really have a hard time believing his salary is that high. I think it is just a publicity stunt.
