Question Define the word RESPECT

Not really in the forum but the outside world. How do you define respect? What earns your respect? What turns you off?

Treating people right and being honest with them and yourself. If you can`t respect yourself you can`t respect anything. I always treat people the way i want to be treated. If i treat somebody good and they treat me with no respect it turns me off. One of my rules in life is to always treat people the way you want to be treated. If you don`t then i don`t know you no more.

When I read this I see it as a verse of respect... it's an adaptation from Corinthians

Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy.
Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude;
It is not self-seeking, nor easily angered.
It keeps no record of wrongdoing.
It does not delight in evil,
But rejoices in the truth.
It always protects, trusts, hopes, and preserves.
There is nothing love cannot face;
There is no limit to its faith, hope, and endurance.
In a word, there are three things that last forever:
Faith, hope, and love;
But the greatest of them all is love.

To me, a recognition that we all have responsibilities; self-respect and respect of others IMO is equal... I think many dismay and see it as two entities. IMO, if you are having a bad day, no matter what... your true colours shine through, if you can carry yourself with respect you will then be able to respect others, but if you fall on your bad day and cannot strive to make it better you can ultimately disrespect others because of your lack of responsibility to carry your responsibility... Your attitude both written and verbal I think is a reflection of how you respect yourself and others...

does that make sense... LOL... I don't think any one person will have a similar understanding of respect... some will define it one way and live it out another way... to me that in itself is dis-respectful...

my thoughts for the day...
